[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_03]: this week as we discuss our favorite cinematic witches and remember to check out

[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Laura's previous episodes on the Fifth Element and Power Rangers.

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_02]: So Danielle, tell us about the magic that is practical magic.

[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Sally and Jillian Owens, born into a magical family, have mostly avoided

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_02]: witchcraft themselves.

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_02]: But when Jillian's vicious boyfriend, Jimmy Angelo dies unexpectedly, the

[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Owens sisters give themself a crash course in their magic with policemen

[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Gary growing suspicious.

[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_02]: The girl struggled to resurrect Angelo and unwittingly inject his corpse

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_02]: with an evil spirit that threatens to end their family line.

[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_02]: The movie stars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Diane Weiss, Stockard Channing

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_02]: and Aiden Quinn.

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_02]: The movie was directed by Griffin Dunn, screenplayed by Robin Swickard,

[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Akiva Goldsman and Adam Brooks.

[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_02]: And it's based on practical magic by Alice Hoffman.

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_02]: You can currently watch it on Pluto.

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_02]: But before we get started, let's get into our readings rewind.

[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_03]: So you know the drill before we get into the movie, we'll review the

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_03]: rating our Y2K versions of ourselves we give.

[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Then at the end, we'll see if our current selves agree with our initial

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_03]: rating. Our scale consists of would buy it, would buy it again.

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_03]: The best would plan repeat.

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Five day rental.

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Would watch again.

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Two day rental.

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but nothing to write home about.

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Same day rental.

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Throw that shit in the ocean.

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_02]: It's no good for you.

[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_02]: It's trash.

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_03]: So Laura, what is your Y2K rating of practical magic?

[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_04]: Five day rental.

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_04]: All the time.

[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_04]: Only because I know I didn't own it and I don't want to lie.

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_03]: And Stephanie, what is your Y2K rating of practical magic?

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I saw this in theaters and I really liked it.

[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I would say it's a two day rental for me, though.

[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I thought about it much after I watched it.

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll get to it.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_01]: This has changed.

[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_01]: That's where I would be, though.

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's my Y2K rating.

[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Danielle?

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel the same as Stephanie in the sense that I don't own it.

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I've never wanted...

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_02]: When I was younger, I never wanted to buy it.

[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_02]: But every time I came on HBO, I watched it.

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_02]: So I would say it's a five day rental for me.

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_02]: You, Jackie?

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I have actually never sat down and watched this movie.

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like this is such a mystery movie.

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I think I've seen bits and pieces of it.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_03]: She was probably watching it and I just never sat down and watched it with her

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_03]: because I vaguely remembered them killing Jimmy.

[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_03]: And then like the midnight margaritas.

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_03]: But like, I didn't know she had kids.

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, I was like, oh, this is all brand new to me.

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_02]: All right.

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_02]: So this movie had a budget of seventy five million dollars.

[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, they had to build that damn house.

[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I was surprised how much budget they had and it made sixty eight point

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_02]: three million dollars, which is not bad.

[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_02]: That's pretty damn good.

[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_02]: It's just that they had such an inflated budget.

[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_02]: This is a Warner Brothers movie, but originally it was owned by another time.

[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_02]: It was owned by another studio.

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_03]: And then there was Ted Turner owned it and then he got Warner.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_03]: And so then it became Warner Brothers.

[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_02]: It merged.

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_02]: When they had the merger.

[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_02]: So it opened at number one with thirteen point one million in ticket sales.

[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_02]: The film went on to gross, like I said, sixteen point three and way less than its

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_02]: production budget.

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Ready for a little Raj.

[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Ready?

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Time said that the film doesn't seem sure what tone

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_02]: to adopt varying uncertainly from horror to laughs to romance.

[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_02]: And I think once we go into it, we'll discover why it felt that weird balance, like

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_02]: unbalance feel to it because they wanted to make it darker.

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_02]: They had a darker cut, but the studio kept like really dabbling and pushing and wanting

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_02]: to change things.

[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's why you kind of have this like uneasy vibes going on.

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, before we get into the cast and crew, let's hear a message from our podpouts.

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Hi, listeners.

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_00]: It's Mark from the Release Date Rewind podcast now on the Straw Hut Media Network.

[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_00]: On each episode of my show, I invite a different friend or two to take a trip down

[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: memory lane with me and rewatch movies we love and occasionally TV shows too.

[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_00]: All genres, big budget, low budget award winners, cult classics, everything.

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And we're not just talking about any random movie.

[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_00]: We nerd out about movies that are celebrating milestone anniversaries of release.

[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_00]: So think the big ones like 20th anniversary, 25th, 30th, 40th, 50th and so on.

[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Learn some trivia and get nostalgic with us while listening to Release Date

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Rewind wherever you get your podcasts.

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.

[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Cast and crew.

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't find like a lot of things about casting.

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I didn't dig deep enough this time, but there's so many facts about this

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_02]: movie.

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_02]: It was, it was a lot.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_02]: But I did find it interesting that Jimmy Angela was originally named Jimmy

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Hawking's and was a Texas redneck, but the part was rewritten as Eastern European

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_02]: for Goran Vizhnek, who I used to love on ER.

[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_02]: When George Clooney left, I was like, no way he's gonna, yes.

[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, nobody's going to take his place.

[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_02]: And then daddy rolled in.

[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, well, well, I'm seated.

[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Just his character.

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Cause I don't know if like objectively, I would think he was hot, but I've

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_02]: very much loved him on ER.

[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_02]: So the director Griffin Dunn saw him in a movie called Welcome to Cervo and

[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Madonna's power of goodbye video and was like, that's our man.

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_02]: So I do love Andrew.

[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_02]: I will be whispering his name throughout the whole episode.

[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_03]: And an unexpected issue that the director Griffin Dunn encountered was the number

[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_03]: of takes the lead actresses needed to complete each scene.

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Sandra Bullock would generally finish in two or three takes.

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_03]: However, Nicole Kimman had just spent the previous 18 months working with

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Stanley Kubrick on Eyes Wide Shut and was now used to doing 70 or 80

[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_03]: takes for a single scene.

[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_03]: That's where the budget went film.

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Get it together, Nicole.

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_02]: And he's like known as kind of like a psychopath.

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_02]: So what other, when we did seven, who directed that one?

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Because he also did like a shit ton of takes.

[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_02]: Trying to remember now.

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_02]: He did seven and panic.

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_02]: That's sure.

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, David.

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_02]: There he is.

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_02]: He's also another.

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I want to say psycho, but you know, I don't know that man, but

[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I just word on the street.

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And they said like during mine hunter, like on the scenes where they would have to be

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_01]: like eating that everyone was getting so sick from all the takes where they had

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_01]: to like chew, hammer.

[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Couldn't be me out of left.

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_02]: S M.

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_02]: All right, Jackie, I guess we're ready.

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_03]: So practical magic starts out with a little family history.

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_03]: We are introduced to Maria, who is the matriarch of the Owens family.

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_03]: She is a witch set in the time of when they burned witches.

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Is Maria, do people have a problem with Maria just cause she's a witch or

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_02]: is that Maria is not like full on Caucasian?

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_03]: She other she's not Protestant.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_03]: So there's issues.

[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Cause I, again, I noticed so many different things rewatching this.

[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, y'all a bunch of racists.

[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Poor Maria.

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_03]: But don't worry.

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Maria severs her own news and runs away, but she is pregnant.

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_03]: She did get around.

[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Which is what I wanted to set.

[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I just feel like she was having a good time.

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_02]: It's not her fault.

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Your husband can't stay committed.

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_04]: It's so much.

[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Here we go again.

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Like what else?

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, also was Maria building that house?

[00:11:23] [SPEAKER_04]: Did she build that?

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Look, you saw that scene.

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_04]: She's like building the house whilst pregnant.

[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_04]: She was a bad witch.

[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Like not even with witchcraft.

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_02]: And not with like the Bobbity doo of like Cinderella with float and stuff or even,

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_02]: you know, like it's like who's building the Emory?

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Where are we staying?

[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_02]: The baby looks like he's about to come right now.

[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_02]: And you just got the foundation.

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Okay.

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_03]: So she places a spell on herself where she'll never fall in love again, but that

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_03]: spell becomes a curse for the Owens women where if they fall in love, their

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_03]: hub husbands befell a tragic fate.

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Is it a curse?

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_02]: I know.

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Get that.

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_02]: I would just get a really good insurance policy.

[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I know what's coming.

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_04]: No timeframe.

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_04]: So it could be like a year and years down the line.

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, I don't know when to cash that check.

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_04]: I would be in my 10th year like this motherfucker is still kicking.

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_04]: You're like, where is that beetle?

[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't hear any chirping.

[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I would start bringing beetles in the house.

[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_04]: Of all the curses or spells, like that's the one you go with.

[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Like couldn't there, there has to be other options, but that's the one you pick.

[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Maria was kind of spiteful.

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I get it girl.

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_01]: She also had pregnancy brain.

[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_03]: So then 200, we skipped 200 years and now we are meeting the youngest Owens

[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_03]: children, Sally and Jillian, their father dies because that's what happens.

[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_03]: And then shortly after they just say their mother dies from heartbreak.

[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like she killed herself.

[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_03]: I felt like that too.

[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_01]: That's my theory too, because later when Jillian's comforting Sally

[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_01]: after her husband has died, she says like, do you forgive our mother?

[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_04]: I caught that.

[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_04]: It's like, Hmm.

[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like she killed herself.

[00:13:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Cause the kids say she died of a broken heart.

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Didn't she and the aunts kind of say like, yeah.

[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_03]: That's a way to spin it.

[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_03]: So they are sent to live with their aunties, Jet and Francis who are fabulous.

[00:14:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Love them so much.

[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_02]: I aspire to be the Aux.

[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_02]: They're the cat ladies some people are speaking of, and I want to be them.

[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_02]: But I didn't realize until I did the notes that they are supposed to be way

[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_02]: older than they are, I guess you could say that's what the townspeople talk about.

[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's interesting when he comes and he starts interviewing

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_02]: some of them, the women who talk about that are like in wheelchairs.

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's like, they're kind of saying, look, these bitches are older than us.

[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I never caught that.

[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_02]: That's a good point.

[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Cause their clothes I think are what gives it away that their clothes look

[00:14:49] [SPEAKER_02]: like from an older time period.

[00:14:52] [SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, I can't even, there's so much, their clothing is, it's

[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_02]: like layered upon layered upon layered.

[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I could, I can't even see the silhouette at this point.

[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know what.

[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_04]: You mean they're not just fashion icons?

[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_03]: I was like, man, I wish I had black shawls to wear tonight.

[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Dramatically like shawls and the hats, the thick eyeliner.

[00:15:19] [SPEAKER_02]: I think they call it whimsy goth is the, the.

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Wimsy gothic.

[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Love it.

[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to create a Pinterest board for that.

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_03]: So they start teaching the girls magic.

[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_03]: We get a voiceover about the death watch beetle that if you hear it,

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_03]: your husband's about to die.

[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Jillian's like, I'm ready to fall in love bitches.

[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's do this.

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_03]: And Sally's like, I'm never fallen in love.

[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to cast a spell on myself.

[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And she says he has to flip pancakes, be kind.

[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Ride a horse backwards.

[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_03]: His favorite shape will be a star and he'll have one green eye and one blue eye.

[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_03]: And she does this because she's like, there's no one in the world that

[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_03]: like has all these traits, right?

[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Little does she know.

[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_02]: But she's also a child making up these crazy ass rules, I guess.

[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_03]: And there's also like the towns people do come to the ants for help.

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_03]: And so they paid that, I guess that's how they make their money is like

[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_03]: towns people pay them to cast spells.

[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Here's my issue with the townspeople.

[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_04]: What did the aunts do or what did the previous generations of women

[00:16:47] [SPEAKER_04]: do of Owens women that they're all like, you know, with the little

[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_04]: chant and they're so rude to them, but oh, you want our help to try

[00:16:56] [SPEAKER_04]: to get your man to leave his wife.

[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_04]: Hypocrite.

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_02]: I would have been cats and all sorts of spell on that town.

[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Danielle would have made all the rumors true.

[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:17:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I also love that they've been chanting, that they've been chanting

[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_01]: which, which you're a bitch for like, she's like hundreds of years.

[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, were they in the Ayrton colonies?

[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Like which, which you're a bitch.

[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Jillian is bored in her tiny coastal town and she wants to see the world

[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_03]: and bone a lot in the sunshine.

[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And so she sneaks out of the house.

[00:17:40] [SPEAKER_03]: She has a man come get her that she claims she's going to marry.

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_03]: And they do a, a blood sister pact, which they're already bloods

[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_03]: blood related.

[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_03]: So I don't, my blood sister is a blood sister.

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Our blood.

[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_04]: It's always the Palm in every sort of like, there's a sacrifice that

[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_04]: needs to be made.

[00:18:02] [SPEAKER_04]: You need to cast a spell.

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_04]: It's always the Palm.

[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_01]: It's never like the worst place to do it.

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Let me just get my arm or another place.

[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_04]: That's not going to impact every single thing I do.

[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to constantly be tape it up.

[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_04]: Do love how it's like, let's just put these black classes on Sandra

[00:18:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Bullock and now she's frumpy.

[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, but she's also wearing that iconic robe that you see in all the

[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_02]: nineties, the purple robe with the Daisy flowers on it.

[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_02]: And we do have that in our Amazon store.

[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_03]: The link is on our website, which is in our show notes.

[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Yep.

[00:18:42] [SPEAKER_03]: So Jillian's gone.

[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_03]: She's in Florida, partying it up and Sally's just living her quiet little

[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_03]: life, not falling in love.

[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_03]: But the aunties are like, we got to get Sally some action.

[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_03]: She deserves it.

[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_03]: So they put a spell on cast a love spell on her.

[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm pronounced to her with the little fruit delivery man that's

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_03]: in town who's precious.

[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:19:16] [SPEAKER_03]: And like the bell tolls and she just gets up from her gardening and just

[00:19:24] [SPEAKER_03]: runs into town and starts making out with him, which is this thing behind

[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_03]: me because this outfit, I love it so much with the galoshes and the little

[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_03]: short jean shorts and the baby tee that kind of looks like a bat.

[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_03]: No notes.

[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So he's perfection.

[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_04]: Perfection.

[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_04]: Good.

[00:19:47] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, like you look at Sandra Bullock now and you're like stunning,

[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_04]: gorgeous, no notes, but then it was so interesting to like, look at

[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_04]: little baby Sandra Bullock and you're like, Oh my God, so gorgeous.

[00:19:59] [SPEAKER_03]: A hair.

[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_03]: So she, she goes and makes out with little fruit man.

[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_03]: And then all of a sudden they're 30th anniversary and they have two

[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_03]: little girls, but those girls are older than three years.

[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe they just didn't get married right away.

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_02]: And also like one of the things I thought was weird is they're writing

[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_02]: letters to each other, but like, does Jillian never come home because at

[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_02]: some point when the girls come home and she meets, she sees them, she's

[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_02]: like, what if they don't like me?

[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, bitch, have you not seen your nieces?

[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Nope.

[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_02]: That's wild.

[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_02]: You're in Arizona, not Ibiza.

[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Like it's not hard to get home.

[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Just saying.

[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_04]: Side note, it's a guy that plays Michael, the same guy that is the

[00:20:52] [SPEAKER_04]: love interest in her shoes.

[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_04]: Sure is.

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_04]: It is.

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_04]: Okay.

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_04]: I thought he looked familiar.

[00:20:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love him.

[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_02]: He's so adorable.

[00:21:01] [SPEAKER_01]: He is.

[00:21:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I noticed something this time, like the, when they're walking through

[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_01]: town and like the ants see Sandra Bullock and Michael, like have a look

[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_01]: at each other a little moment.

[00:21:18] [SPEAKER_01]: We hear like little wind chimes and we see like a bunch of leaves

[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_01]: fall and the ants like look up.

[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_01]: So was that encouraging them to put on the love spell is how we're

[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_04]: supposed to take it?

[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_04]: I took it is that like the way my brain interpreted it is before

[00:21:38] [SPEAKER_04]: they saw Michael.

[00:21:39] [SPEAKER_04]: So they're talking and Sandra Bullock walks under the tree.

[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_04]: So I thought it was just like a representation of her like

[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_04]: loneliness or her sadness.

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_04]: Cause like the leaves just start to fall as soon as she passes

[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_04]: and then they see Michael.

[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_04]: So that's how I took it.

[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_04]: And the ants kind of like notice it to be like, Oh, our

[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_04]: girl's depressed.

[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_04]: She needs something, but who knows?

[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_02]: I was, I never noticed that part either.

[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I watched it a long time ago.

[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_03]: And also in the scene, Stockard Channing is holding the tiniest

[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_03]: little parasol.

[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_03]: And I was like, I need that parasol in my life.

[00:22:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I just love their vibe as they're going through town, like

[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_01]: not even looking where they're walking.

[00:22:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Like they own this town.

[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_01]: They do not care what the town's people think about them.

[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_04]: Averting the game.

[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Averting their children's eyes.

[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Like they're going to be blinded.

[00:22:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_04]: I just want Stockard Channing's giant hat on this at all times.

[00:22:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_02]: And it was like kind of tilted up too.

[00:22:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't know how she did that.

[00:22:49] [SPEAKER_03]: We also see Jillian.

[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_03]: She has now met Jimmy Angelo.

[00:23:00] [SPEAKER_03]: And she is just, it's almost like he has a spell of his own and

[00:23:06] [SPEAKER_03]: she just can't get out from under it.

[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_03]: But also he's a mean drunk.

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_03]: And so she puts, she sprinkles a little belladonna in his

[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_03]: tequila to make him pass out so that he doesn't beat her.

[00:23:20] [SPEAKER_02]: So not the greatest.

[00:23:22] [SPEAKER_02]: If you gotta do that, it's time to let Holly go.

[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_03]: That's so scary.

[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_03]: And then one night Sally hears the dreaded death watch beetle.

[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_03]: She's Michael is going and delivering his fruits.

[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_03]: The series of events that happen in Michael's passing are,

[00:23:47] [SPEAKER_03]: we couldn't have come up with something better.

[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, so it is a gang of bicyclists that start coming through town

[00:23:59] [SPEAKER_03]: as Michael is taking his fruit across the street.

[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_03]: And he's like momentarily distracted because like someone's talking to him.

[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_03]: And then all of the bicycles avoid him and you're like, cool.

[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Michael's good.

[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_03]: And then he gets hit by a Mack truck.

[00:24:16] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's so beautifully shot with the apples in the air.

[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Like the greats dramatically falling and breaking.

[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_04]: And it cuts to Sandra Bullock, like ripping the floorboards, trying

[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_04]: to get to the middle and she senses it.

[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_04]: That part always makes me sad.

[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm just like, well, I was like, move on.

[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Let's get Aiden Quinn out of here.

[00:24:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I did cry on my rewatch of this like two times.

[00:24:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I did.

[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, she is just she's destroyed.

[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, like they were happy.

[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_03]: They had everything she ever wanted.

[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_03]: And it was all taken away from her because of the curse.

[00:24:59] [SPEAKER_03]: So she goes to live with the aunties and she's like,

[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_03]: absolutely under no circumstances will we be having cake for breakfast.

[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_03]: And you better not teach them any witchcraft.

[00:25:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, fun, mom.

[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_04]: This is where she finds out that it was a love spell.

[00:25:18] [SPEAKER_04]: So she's even more heartbroken and like not trusting the aunts

[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_04]: had much anymore.

[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_01]: The scene where she's asking them to help bring him back.

[00:25:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I think this time it made me really sad because it parallels

[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_01]: that scene with the Sally and Jillian watching from the stairs.

[00:25:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Like the town's women come in, like, loved craze,

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_01]: like asking them for help.

[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And that's when she cast the spell because she's like,

[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't ever want to be in this situation.

[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't ever want to be that desperate.

[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And like, yeah, happened to her anyway.

[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I just want to know if when the girls originally

[00:26:00] [SPEAKER_02]: when Sally and Jillian came to her aunt,

[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_02]: they were wearing the Wednesday Addams like clothes.

[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Does she have her kids wearing the same thing when they come?

[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_04]: I took it is because they were in mourning.

[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, like it was just because they were all wearing black.

[00:26:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Like even she was in like a black outfit.

[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Like that they were just like in mourning.

[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_04]: That's a good point.

[00:26:22] [SPEAKER_04]: So I was like, what?

[00:26:23] [SPEAKER_04]: What is with these outfits again?

[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_04]: It's tradition when you go live with the odds.

[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_04]: You have to wear these outfits.

[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_01]: You have to dress.

[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_01]: We got a dress code up in here.

[00:26:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Got to lick the part.

[00:26:33] [SPEAKER_02]: And her the daughter's ages are switched in the movie

[00:26:37] [SPEAKER_02]: because in the books, one of what is her name?

[00:26:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Angelique. I don't know.

[00:26:43] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm making up stuff, but it starts today.

[00:26:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she is supposed to be older in the book,

[00:26:50] [SPEAKER_02]: but they switch it.

[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_02]: I wonder if like when they were casting the girls,

[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_02]: they just really liked Rachel Evan Wooden was like.

[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Because maybe she could pull up the red hair instead of the black hair.

[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_02]: They were like, we'll just switch the.

[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I I read the book and I like the change to have them a bit younger.

[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, OK. Was it different that they were like teenagers went in?

[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like one of them has I mean, there's a like a few differences.

[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Like they don't go live with the aunts in the book.

[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Like they stay in the suburbs.

[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Like there's a lot more between the sisters, like after their dad's death,

[00:27:28] [SPEAKER_01]: like they have a lot of their own plot lines.

[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And like one of them works at a fast food shop.

[00:27:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And like eventually there's like a part where she gets like

[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Jillian a job there.

[00:27:37] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a.

[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Interesting.

[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's a bit different.

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So I think I liked the simplification of like

[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_01]: keeping them as like cute, like helpful, but like minor characters.

[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's something we can explore in the second one.

[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, definitely.

[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_03]: She's just depressed in mourning, doesn't want to get out of bed.

[00:27:58] [SPEAKER_03]: The girls are trying their best to get her out.

[00:28:00] [SPEAKER_03]: But then she has that sisterly connection with Jillian.

[00:28:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Jillian is partying it up in Arizona.

[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I'm hoping it's like wintertime, because let me tell you that Arizona,

[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_02]: he ain't no joke in the summer.

[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_02]: But she's by the pool having the time of her life dancing.

[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_03]: But she does come home, it seems like only for a day.

[00:28:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. Check on Sally.

[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_02]: And then she's it looks like she's there in a jiffy.

[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. But to stay for one day from Arizona is kind of insane.

[00:28:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. And then to drive back crazy.

[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. And then that time, like the girls didn't see her.

[00:28:43] [SPEAKER_04]: Like, how did she? Yeah.

[00:28:45] [SPEAKER_04]: She's just upstairs the whole time and the girls didn't see her.

[00:28:48] [SPEAKER_04]: And then she left.

[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. Yeah, I don't know.

[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_02]: That was weird, too. I totally forgot.

[00:28:56] [SPEAKER_04]: But I will say good for Jillian for telling Sally like, hey,

[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_04]: you need to get it together for those girls.

[00:29:03] [SPEAKER_04]: You know, like I'm glad it snapped her out of it.

[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_04]: I was like, Sally, your girls, they need you.

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. Yeah.

[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_04]: So I am glad she would just got that dress that made me cry.

[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I think when she was stroking her hair and she and Sally just says,

[00:29:17] [SPEAKER_01]: like, I was happy.

[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I know. But got me this time.

[00:29:22] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, like when she says, like, do you forgive our mother?

[00:29:25] [SPEAKER_01]: She follows that up with like, well, you'll never forgive yourself

[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_01]: if you don't get up and live your life.

[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_02]: I just feel so bad because, you know, when a spouse dies and you have kids

[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_02]: it's like that parent doesn't even get to mourn properly

[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_02]: because everyone's telling them they have to be good for the kids.

[00:29:46] [SPEAKER_02]: I'd be like, fucking kids.

[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_02]: I was my husband.

[00:29:50] [SPEAKER_05]: I was my husband.

[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_03]: And then they show Sally

[00:29:58] [SPEAKER_03]: because there her and Michael's dream was to open like a botanical store.

[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_03]: And so that dream is eventually realized.

[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_03]: And so she opens up Verbania

[00:30:10] [SPEAKER_03]: and she sells like shampoos and conditioners and lotions.

[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_03]: And so she's getting back to

[00:30:18] [SPEAKER_03]: like a routine and getting out in the world.

[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_02]: It reminds me of the store that David has in Schitt's Creek.

[00:30:26] [SPEAKER_02]: The apothecary.

[00:30:29] [SPEAKER_04]: Which is my background, not from the movie, but an apothecary.

[00:30:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Also, when they're showing like the little main street

[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_03]: where Verbania is, there are children just out playing in the streets.

[00:30:45] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, these streets are dangerous.

[00:30:46] [SPEAKER_03]: There are bikers and there are trucks that will kill you

[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_03]: with playing ball on the street, children.

[00:30:55] [SPEAKER_03]: It's a hazard.

[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And we meet the ladies that work with her in her shop.

[00:31:02] [SPEAKER_03]: And I was like, I know both those ladies.

[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_03]: The lady with the crazy hair, that's Monica from Shameless

[00:31:10] [SPEAKER_03]: because I'm.

[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, my God.

[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.

[00:31:14] [SPEAKER_03]: As soon as she talked to her, I was like, I know that voice

[00:31:17] [SPEAKER_03]: because she has a very distinctive voice.

[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, that's Monica.

[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_03]: And then the other lady is from Dexter.

[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_03]: She plays Camilla, who helped raise Dexter and with the lemon

[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_04]: meringue pie.

[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Your actress, Marco Martindale.

[00:31:35] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.

[00:31:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you guys watch Bojack Horseman?

[00:31:38] [SPEAKER_01]: No.

[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_01]: She plays like as herself, but she's always character actress

[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Marco Martindale.

[00:31:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I love it.

[00:31:49] [SPEAKER_03]: And so she has her little tribe at the shop and then her

[00:31:56] [SPEAKER_03]: aunties and her girls at home.

[00:31:58] [SPEAKER_02]: And at some point, the kids start teasing the girls

[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_02]: and calling them witch and in front of the store.

[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_02]: And the girls start to points and tells them, I hope you

[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_02]: get chicken pop and her mom's like, it's real serious

[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_02]: business. Don't be playing with that.

[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_04]: I love how Sally was like, you put that finger down.

[00:32:20] [SPEAKER_04]: I do appreciate that later on in the movie, the kid

[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_04]: does have chicken pop.

[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.

[00:32:24] [SPEAKER_03]: She has the power.

[00:32:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:32:26] [SPEAKER_02]: I was curious of what the girls powers were.

[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I also was confused.

[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, do people, do people in their family have different

[00:32:34] [SPEAKER_02]: types of powers?

[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I, or just the craft comes more natural or harder.

[00:32:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Is somebody better at spells?

[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Is someone better at herbs?

[00:32:46] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I really wanted to know more about like,

[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_03]: it felt like it was all equal.

[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Jillian just was younger than Sally.

[00:32:55] [SPEAKER_03]: And so Jillian hadn't mastered like blowing a

[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_03]: candle on.

[00:33:00] Yeah.

[00:33:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[00:33:02] [SPEAKER_01]: It seems like Sally was more studious.

[00:33:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_01]: She was more into like learning spells and practicing.

[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And Jillian just kind of wanted to have fun.

[00:33:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_02]: She was using it for different ways.

[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I feel like it, I feel like they, it came to them both naturally,

[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_02]: but they just kept saying that Jillian was more, now I'm confusing.

[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_02]: And Sally was more confused, more skilled.

[00:33:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's because she listened and practiced.

[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_04]: Cause even later on, Jillian is like, I wish I had just half of the, you

[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_04]: know, strength that you do and you have so much potential.

[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_04]: And so it's like, I wanted to see more of that.

[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Right.

[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_04]: What is it?

[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_02]: All I see her is stirring coffee a lot.

[00:33:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:33:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Just stirring her little.

[00:33:50] [SPEAKER_01]: It does evolve into her blowing a candle on.

[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

[00:33:57] [SPEAKER_03]: That very much impresses the audience and her children.

[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_03]: We see the girls asking the older aunties about their mom and they're

[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_03]: kind of giving some things, but then Sally walks in and she's like,

[00:34:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Don't tell them any of that witch crap nonsense to which they reply.

[00:34:17] [SPEAKER_03]: We'd never tell them nonsense, but then Sally notices there's a circle

[00:34:22] [SPEAKER_03]: around the moon, which is a sign of trouble.

[00:34:26] [SPEAKER_02]: I've never seen a circle around a moon before, so I was like, this is new.

[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_03]: And then she also like throws out there that she just wants someone

[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_03]: to love her, which I'm like, are you, aren't you still in mourning

[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_03]: of Michael?

[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I know time has passed because you've opened your shop, but still like

[00:34:46] [SPEAKER_03]: it felt like they were so in love that you wouldn't want to move on.

[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.

[00:34:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think she questions if it was real.

[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:34:59] [SPEAKER_02]: So I think what she means is she wants someone to just love her for

[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_02]: her and not because of magic.

[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_02]: I think that's why she hesitates when Gary comes and she finds out

[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_02]: it's because of her spell.

[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, this shit again.

[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I want to do it myself.

[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm tired.

[00:35:23] [SPEAKER_04]: It is weird how like the thread of the movie is like, I just want to be in love

[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_04]: or I just want to like have someone to love when she's so very adamant

[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_04]: that she doesn't want to be loved.

[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_04]: I just thought that was funny.

[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Like she's just yearning.

[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I honestly could have gone without the male situation.

[00:35:45] [SPEAKER_02]: I very much love the sisterhood of it.

[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_02]: I love the family elements.

[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Like it could have just been a movie about my husband died

[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_02]: and I'm about figuring out what I want to do next, you know,

[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_02]: without this forced I'm in love with this man after two days nonsense.

[00:36:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Was that a studio note?

[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[00:36:08] [SPEAKER_01]: That they pushed romance more.

[00:36:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm trying to remember from the book if that was a plotline.

[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like anytime there's a female led movie,

[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_02]: there always has to be some sort of romance

[00:36:24] [SPEAKER_02]: and it doesn't really have to be that way.

[00:36:29] [SPEAKER_02]: But you know, it was the 90s not like they're not doing that shit still now.

[00:36:34] [SPEAKER_01]: They're like Sandra Bullock, got to sell this as a rom-com.

[00:36:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Sally's looking at the moon.

[00:36:41] [SPEAKER_03]: The phone rings and she's like, it's Jillian.

[00:36:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Like she knows she's in trouble.

[00:36:46] [SPEAKER_03]: So she runs answers the phone and she doesn't even like say hello.

[00:36:49] [SPEAKER_03]: She's like, what's wrong?

[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_03]: And so Jimmy has beaten Jillian one too many times

[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_03]: and she gave him a bunch of Bella Donna to knock them out

[00:36:59] [SPEAKER_03]: and Sally needs to come get her.

[00:37:01] [SPEAKER_03]: But like she has to get on a plane, like find a flight, get on a plane.

[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure there's no airports around Maria's Island.

[00:37:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, right.

[00:37:11] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure it took some time.

[00:37:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, does she keep just like here during.

[00:37:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she was still with him.

[00:37:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like he was in the room.

[00:37:22] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he was like in the car.

[00:37:24] [SPEAKER_04]: So like, are you going out to make sure he still goes?

[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like just go to the clerk and enchant him into giving you another room

[00:37:36] [SPEAKER_03]: or Jimmy doesn't know where you are if you can't get anywhere else.

[00:37:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I think it would have made more sense if she came home and he followed her.

[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_02]: And then they would have to like fight him off kind of thing.

[00:37:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Because this going across the country ship just didn't make any logical sense.

[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_02]: And then again, you're driving.

[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_02]: How long does it take to get from Arizona to where are they?

[00:38:05] Maine?

[00:38:06] [SPEAKER_02]: New England somewhere.

[00:38:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she gets a plane.

[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Now she's there and she's looking for what was the stone Tiger's Eye.

[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_02]: My Tiger's Eye.

[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_02]: If you don't get your ass in this car.

[00:38:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll stop at the gem store down the street.

[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_03]: We're in Arizona and I'll buy you a new Tiger's Eye.

[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Bitch, we're fucking witches.

[00:38:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's go.

[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_03]: But now she has to get the Tiger's Eye and oh, Jimmy's in the car

[00:38:38] [SPEAKER_03]: and now he's holding you hostage.

[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Did he have a knife, a gun, just his hands?

[00:38:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I think he had a gun.

[00:38:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:38:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Or no, a knife.

[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_02]: He had something for sure.

[00:38:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Like on her neck.

[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:38:53] [SPEAKER_03]: And so Sally's forced to drive.

[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know where they're driving to.

[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Halfway to their house, I guess.

[00:39:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.

[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_02]: And then he's like telling some stupid ass story and he's lighting his ring

[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_02]: because he's trying to brand her.

[00:39:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Like what year are we in?

[00:39:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Like what is this?

[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a cow.

[00:39:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Like what are you branding me for?

[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_02]: And so the scene where Jillian Asher projects,

[00:39:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what the fuck's going on.

[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_03]: It was grade A eye acting.

[00:39:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Jennifer Lefkiewicz in I know what she did last summer.

[00:39:34] [SPEAKER_02]: She's driving, she's looking.

[00:39:38] [SPEAKER_02]: And then all of a sudden Nicole Kidman's face just gets real close to the camera

[00:39:42] [SPEAKER_02]: and she's like get the Bella Donna.

[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_02]: It's in the backseat.

[00:39:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Like what is happening?

[00:39:53] [SPEAKER_01]: That's her power.

[00:39:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that is a whole power to have.

[00:39:59] [SPEAKER_02]: And the way that Sally does that kind of like convinces old dude to give her his beer

[00:40:05] [SPEAKER_02]: or whatever the fuck he's drinking on.

[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, is that what it was?

[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.

[00:40:10] [SPEAKER_02]: That was pretty smart.

[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_02]: But she put the whole damn thing in there.

[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Wasn't paying attention and he's dead.

[00:40:19] [SPEAKER_02]: And then they put his body in the trunk and drive to their aunt's house.

[00:40:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Okay.

[00:40:24] [SPEAKER_03]: They are stopped on the side of the road in front of a factory of some sort.

[00:40:33] [SPEAKER_03]: It seems very remote.

[00:40:37] [SPEAKER_03]: I would like just push the body out and keep going.

[00:40:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Or even before then he was outside of the vehicle for several minutes.

[00:40:46] [SPEAKER_03]: He had the keys though.

[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_04]: I didn't know that.

[00:40:51] [SPEAKER_02]: I would have gone back to the location, got my keys and got my car and got the hell out.

[00:40:58] [SPEAKER_02]: He fell asleep with his liquor.

[00:41:02] [SPEAKER_02]: That's none of my business.

[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_03]: That's a key live right there.

[00:41:04] [SPEAKER_03]: They're not going to question anything because he's obviously a drunk

[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_03]: and he's wanted for strangling people in the past.

[00:41:11] [SPEAKER_03]: So good riddance.

[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_02]: And I would have done a spell to say let me not get caught for killing this dude.

[00:41:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:41:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Jedi mind trick everyone.

[00:41:20] [SPEAKER_02]: But no, they drive them back to their aunt's house.

[00:41:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Get him on the wonderful dining table.

[00:41:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Get the magic books and spell.

[00:41:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Take whipped cream to put a star on him to do this spell because

[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_02]: it's come into Jillian's mind that hey,

[00:41:37] [SPEAKER_02]: the aunts didn't say that we couldn't bring someone back to life.

[00:41:41] [SPEAKER_02]: They just wouldn't.

[00:41:42] [SPEAKER_02]: So let's try to do that because at least if he's breathing

[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_02]: and his heart is beating, we won't go down for this situation.

[00:41:50] [SPEAKER_03]: And the aunties had told Sally like they come back as something dark and unnatural.

[00:41:56] [SPEAKER_03]: And Jillian's like he's already dark and unnatural.

[00:41:59] It's fine.

[00:42:01] [SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not fine.

[00:42:02] [SPEAKER_02]: When you try to bring someone back.

[00:42:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Nope.

[00:42:06] [SPEAKER_02]: And as soon as he does come back, this bitch is trying to kill Jillian again.

[00:42:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:42:13] [SPEAKER_03]: So Sally kills him with a cast iron pan.

[00:42:18] [SPEAKER_03]: She double taps him with a cast iron pan.

[00:42:21] [SPEAKER_03]: But my question is, was the spell never fully executed?

[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Executed because they didn't needle him in the eye.

[00:42:30] [SPEAKER_03]: The same as his eyes.

[00:42:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you might be right.

[00:42:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Which is why he was like this weird toady spirit man.

[00:42:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. It made me laugh though when he gets up and he's choking Jillian

[00:42:43] [SPEAKER_04]: and he's screaming about like you're going to be my wife, my wife.

[00:42:46] [SPEAKER_04]: He sounds like Borat.

[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_04]: He's like my wife.

[00:42:50] [SPEAKER_04]: It did sound like Borat.

[00:42:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Two clips that give off the same energy.

[00:43:00] [SPEAKER_02]: It was very Borat vibes.

[00:43:02] [SPEAKER_02]: So then they bury him in the yard.

[00:43:05] [SPEAKER_02]: As you do.

[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_03]: There's an ocean right there.

[00:43:08] [SPEAKER_03]: That's true.

[00:43:09] [SPEAKER_03]: He got drunk and fell and hit his head because he has a head wound now.

[00:43:14] [SPEAKER_03]: And he ended up in the ocean.

[00:43:16] [SPEAKER_03]: So sad.

[00:43:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Listeners, I don't want you to think Jackie and I are just really good at coming up with ways

[00:43:22] [SPEAKER_02]: to murder people.

[00:43:23] [SPEAKER_02]: It's just we watch a lot of TV.

[00:43:26] [SPEAKER_03]: We do.

[00:43:27] [SPEAKER_03]: And we like a fully fleshed out backstory.

[00:43:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, 100%.

[00:43:32] [SPEAKER_02]: So they buried him and I guess the aunts come back with the girls

[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_02]: because they took them to the solstice event.

[00:43:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Which would also be like a fun thing to see in the sequel.

[00:43:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Like this kind of expanded.

[00:43:48] [SPEAKER_04]: Just like more about what they do.

[00:43:51] [SPEAKER_04]: I do like that when the aunts were taking the girls in Central Bowl, it's like

[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_04]: don't let them dance naked under the full moon.

[00:43:58] [SPEAKER_04]: And they were like, oh honey, that's optional.

[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_04]: But then when the girls come back, they're like we danced naked under the moon.

[00:44:07] [SPEAKER_03]: I love how the answer just like you can tell me not to do things.

[00:44:11] [SPEAKER_03]: But I'm not going to listen.

[00:44:14] [SPEAKER_04]: You're like, I'm 250 years old.

[00:44:17] [SPEAKER_04]: Like I do what I want.

[00:44:19] [SPEAKER_02]: And when the girls come back, no, I think then that's when we have Midnight Margaritas.

[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's phone tree day first.

[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's right.

[00:44:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:44:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Those women are a bunch of haters and I don't know why she wants to fit in with them.

[00:44:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Anyways, tired ass rompy ass bitches.

[00:44:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but Jillian shows up and changes all the names on like

[00:44:45] [SPEAKER_03]: because I guess they vote on the phone tree.

[00:44:48] [SPEAKER_03]: And she put Sally at the top of the list.

[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_03]: So Sally is the head of the phone tree, much to the chagrin of the coastal women who lunch.

[00:45:01] [SPEAKER_04]: I like how they're scandalized by like Jillian's like midriff,

[00:45:06] [SPEAKER_04]: like her crop top and her leather pants.

[00:45:08] [SPEAKER_04]: And they're just like, whoa.

[00:45:09] [SPEAKER_04]: She has a snake tattoo.

[00:45:14] [SPEAKER_03]: And she totally feeds into it.

[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_03]: She's like, watch your husband.

[00:45:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Now it's Midnight Margaritas.

[00:45:22] [SPEAKER_03]: So Sally is already asleep.

[00:45:24] [SPEAKER_03]: She's a mom.

[00:45:25] [SPEAKER_03]: She gets up early.

[00:45:26] [SPEAKER_03]: She goes bed early.

[00:45:27] [SPEAKER_03]: But Jillian wakes her up and the answer downstairs

[00:45:32] [SPEAKER_03]: and you can hear them playing, put the lime in the coconut.

[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_03]: And so they run downstairs like, bitch, it's midnight margarita time.

[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_03]: And this scene is so fun.

[00:45:44] [SPEAKER_03]: And I love that according to Sandra Bullock on the DVD commentary,

[00:45:52] [SPEAKER_03]: they were all actually drunk and slinging the insults

[00:45:57] [SPEAKER_03]: because they all drank some really bad tequila brought in by Nicole Kidman.

[00:46:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I love method acting.

[00:46:07] [SPEAKER_04]: When did Midnight Margaritas start?

[00:46:09] [SPEAKER_04]: These are young girls with the odds.

[00:46:13] [SPEAKER_02]: I think the odds were they were always doing it.

[00:46:17] [SPEAKER_02]: And then when the girls got old enough, they partaked.

[00:46:20] [SPEAKER_04]: Was it a nightly thing?

[00:46:22] [SPEAKER_04]: Is it a special occasion?

[00:46:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Looks like special occasion.

[00:46:25] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:46:26] [SPEAKER_01]: But I love the way that that scene is set up.

[00:46:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:46:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Like putting this stuff and then it zooms out

[00:46:31] [SPEAKER_01]: and it shows it's a blender.

[00:46:32] [SPEAKER_01]: A blender.

[00:46:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And they're turning it on.

[00:46:37] [SPEAKER_04]: I like how they knew the girls would come down

[00:46:39] [SPEAKER_04]: because as soon as they come down, the odds have their drinks

[00:46:43] [SPEAKER_04]: ready for them to just grab.

[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_04]: They can dance.

[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.

[00:46:46] [SPEAKER_04]: That scene is wonderful.

[00:46:48] [SPEAKER_02]: But in this scene, they realize that something is wrong

[00:46:53] [SPEAKER_02]: because they're all insulting each other

[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_02]: and there's kind of a darkness about it.

[00:46:59] [SPEAKER_02]: As soon as Jillian realizes, she takes the bottle

[00:47:04] [SPEAKER_02]: and throws it in the sink.

[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_02]: Which I don't understand.

[00:47:07] [SPEAKER_02]: You could have just poured it out.

[00:47:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Why did you have to break the glass?

[00:47:10] [SPEAKER_02]: They break a lot of glass in this movie

[00:47:11] [SPEAKER_02]: and they clean it up in the weirdest ways.

[00:47:14] [SPEAKER_04]: The odds were singing that song associated with Jimmy.

[00:47:20] Yes.

[00:47:20] [SPEAKER_02]: And that's when they realized.

[00:47:22] [SPEAKER_04]: That's when they realized it was like,

[00:47:23] [SPEAKER_04]: where did you get this bottle?

[00:47:24] [SPEAKER_04]: And then the ads are like, someone left it on the porch.

[00:47:31] [SPEAKER_02]: And then they're like, what's going on?

[00:47:34] [SPEAKER_02]: So they give the girls a chance.

[00:47:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I say girls, but these grown ass women,

[00:47:38] [SPEAKER_02]: a chance to tell them what the hell is going on

[00:47:40] [SPEAKER_02]: and they don't and shit starts to go awry.

[00:47:44] [SPEAKER_02]: And so the odds are like, we got to leave.

[00:47:46] [SPEAKER_02]: They got to figure this shit out.

[00:47:47] [SPEAKER_02]: But what I don't understand is they say they got to leave.

[00:47:49] [SPEAKER_02]: The girls have to learn this lesson on their own

[00:47:51] [SPEAKER_02]: but they still come back to help them in the end.

[00:47:55] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's just like, what was the point?

[00:47:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Because they realized the girls could not do this on their own.

[00:48:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think didn't they think it was over at that point?

[00:48:04] [SPEAKER_04]: I think so.

[00:48:05] [SPEAKER_04]: I think you're right.

[00:48:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Because even they say something like, oh, I think our timing is off.

[00:48:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Our timing was off because that's when we'll get to it.

[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_04]: And then those poor, the other girls,

[00:48:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Sally's girls, they have to wear that like the rope from the hanging to protect them.

[00:48:22] [SPEAKER_04]: So why would the rope protect them?

[00:48:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe because it was like magical.

[00:48:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Like obviously she didn't die from it.

[00:48:32] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's like a protection thing.

[00:48:34] [SPEAKER_02]: So maybe that's why.

[00:48:35] [SPEAKER_03]: And then the next day they notice that there's a rose bush

[00:48:43] [SPEAKER_03]: that's magically grown where Jimmy is buried and there's an influx of frogs.

[00:48:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.

[00:48:50] [SPEAKER_02]: And one of the daughters notices, like she can literally see Jimmy

[00:48:56] [SPEAKER_02]: which might be one of her guests that maybe she could see the dead.

[00:48:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.

[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Or maybe because they have the protection thing,

[00:49:01] [SPEAKER_02]: it shows it to her so she knows not to go out there.

[00:49:05] [SPEAKER_02]: And she's like, wait, where'd you get that rope?

[00:49:07] [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, the aunts left it, gave it to us,

[00:49:09] [SPEAKER_02]: told us to wear it because they out.

[00:49:12] [SPEAKER_02]: They're gone.

[00:49:13] [SPEAKER_02]: So now they're panicked.

[00:49:15] [SPEAKER_02]: And then on top of that, they realized like somebody's coming.

[00:49:19] [SPEAKER_02]: I think that happened when the aunts were there because the broom fell.

[00:49:22] [SPEAKER_02]: So they know someone is coming and that's when the aunts were like,

[00:49:27] [SPEAKER_02]: yeah, we're getting the fuck out of Dodge.

[00:49:29] [SPEAKER_02]: And when do they meet Gary?

[00:49:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Does he come over?

[00:49:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:49:34] [SPEAKER_03]: So Gary shows up.

[00:49:35] [SPEAKER_03]: He's working a case.

[00:49:36] [SPEAKER_03]: He came in from Arizona and essentially he's looking for Jimmy

[00:49:43] [SPEAKER_03]: because he's wanted for the murder of this lady.

[00:49:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Essentially, he's like a serial killer

[00:49:49] [SPEAKER_03]: and his mark is branding the ladies with his ring.

[00:49:54] [SPEAKER_03]: And they're trying to lie and say like, oh, we left Jimmy in Arizona.

[00:49:58] [SPEAKER_03]: We don't know where he is.

[00:49:59] [SPEAKER_03]: He's like his fucking car is in your driveway.

[00:50:03] [SPEAKER_02]: But we also learned that Sally does not want to lie to him.

[00:50:11] [SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, Jillian's like, bitch, get it together.

[00:50:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Here's the story.

[00:50:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Stick to the story.

[00:50:16] [SPEAKER_02]: And Sally's like, got it.

[00:50:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Goes back downstairs.

[00:50:19] [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, I'm going to tell you.

[00:50:22] [SPEAKER_01]: No self-preservation.

[00:50:24] [SPEAKER_02]: And then in second grade, she is telling all her secrets.

[00:50:28] [SPEAKER_02]: She can't even help it at this point.

[00:50:30] [SPEAKER_02]: He is like side eyeing all of it.

[00:50:34] [SPEAKER_03]: But at the same time, he has this thing where he's trying to protect Sally.

[00:50:38] [SPEAKER_03]: So he's like, don't stop telling me things.

[00:50:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I do love that Jillian tries to use her feminine wiles

[00:50:45] [SPEAKER_02]: when she comes downstairs and he's like,

[00:50:48] [SPEAKER_02]: can you stop touching me?

[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Can you get off of me?

[00:50:50] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not falling back.

[00:50:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm not falling for this shit.

[00:50:53] [SPEAKER_02]: I actually dig your sister.

[00:50:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Just saying.

[00:50:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And then he does go out to the car and is inspecting it

[00:51:02] [SPEAKER_03]: and there's a little sprinkle of Belladonna stuck in the crack of the seat.

[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_03]: So he scoops that out.

[00:51:08] [SPEAKER_03]: So now we know he's looking for he knows about the ring.

[00:51:11] [SPEAKER_03]: So that's going to tie back to Jimmy.

[00:51:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And he tests the Belladonna.

[00:51:17] [SPEAKER_03]: He's like, oh, this is and they're like, oh, it's

[00:51:21] [SPEAKER_03]: it's something to help you sleep.

[00:51:23] [SPEAKER_03]: He's like, or it's poison.

[00:51:26] [SPEAKER_03]: That little thing.

[00:51:28] [SPEAKER_03]: So they're trying to handle what's his name?

[00:51:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Gary.

[00:51:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Gary.

[00:51:34] [SPEAKER_02]: And he goes around the town and he's like interviewing people about her,

[00:51:39] [SPEAKER_02]: the family.

[00:51:40] [SPEAKER_02]: And that's when you see all the tails come out.

[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_02]: And she's like secretly stalking him as he does it.

[00:51:46] [SPEAKER_02]: So it's just super weird.

[00:51:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Their cat mouse situation is odd.

[00:51:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I love the scene where he's like in the greenhouse

[00:51:55] [SPEAKER_03]: and the way she like leans to look at him in the doorway.

[00:52:01] [SPEAKER_03]: It was like you're going to fall over at some point.

[00:52:05] [SPEAKER_02]: I did a whole video on how Sandra Bullock loves to lean,

[00:52:09] [SPEAKER_02]: especially on the covers of her movies.

[00:52:11] [SPEAKER_02]: That is true.

[00:52:13] [SPEAKER_02]: She does love a good lean.

[00:52:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Just saying.

[00:52:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Not sure why.

[00:52:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead.

[00:52:20] [SPEAKER_02]: No, I was just going to say, but pretty much in between all of this, Sally,

[00:52:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Jillian starts get acting really fucking weird and possessed.

[00:52:31] [SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, Sally is just trying to figure out why she's like having an obsession with

[00:52:36] [SPEAKER_02]: this man.

[00:52:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:52:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And Jillian tries to, well, she makes a concoction to like banish him away.

[00:52:46] [SPEAKER_02]: But he's coming over, so they're going to make pancakes.

[00:52:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:52:49] [SPEAKER_03]: But the girls find Sally's journal and find like the list of things her true love will have.

[00:52:58] [SPEAKER_03]: And they see him flipping pancakes and he's good at it.

[00:53:00] [SPEAKER_03]: And they're like, no, no, no, this is mom's man.

[00:53:03] [SPEAKER_03]: And they like take the syrup and throw it into the sea.

[00:53:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[00:53:08] [SPEAKER_04]: And they're asking him like, can you ride a pony backwards?

[00:53:10] [SPEAKER_04]: And he's like backwards and forwards and all sorts of stuff.

[00:53:14] [SPEAKER_04]: And they find his badge and they're like, oh my God, this is the guy.

[00:53:19] [SPEAKER_02]: He loves a star.

[00:53:21] [SPEAKER_02]: And she does talk to him about his badge being like a talisman,

[00:53:25] [SPEAKER_02]: which comes into play later.

[00:53:27] [SPEAKER_02]: And right in the midst of this, because she doesn't know that her sister is like

[00:53:31] [SPEAKER_02]: concocting this thing to banish him.

[00:53:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And then that creepy frog just spits up this, the guy's fucking ring.

[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_02]: And even then he doesn't arrest these people.

[00:53:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Even then he's like, or get a warrant to search the house or whatever.

[00:53:46] [SPEAKER_02]: So he leaves, but he's suspicious.

[00:53:52] [SPEAKER_02]: And then Jillian starts to lose her fucking shit.

[00:53:55] [SPEAKER_02]: No, Sally goes, she's like, they get in a fight and she's like,

[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go get my man because I got to tell him the truth.

[00:54:02] [SPEAKER_02]: She goes to his hotel to tell him the truth.

[00:54:03] [SPEAKER_02]: And he's recording her and she's not telling all the truth.

[00:54:09] [SPEAKER_02]: And then when she finally does, he's like, let me stop the tape.

[00:54:12] [SPEAKER_02]: And then they just start making out.

[00:54:13] [SPEAKER_04]: I wish if they were going to do the whole like,

[00:54:17] [SPEAKER_04]: like Fated Mates thing, like play into that a little bit more.

[00:54:21] [SPEAKER_04]: Like I wish we would have had more threads to kind of get us to that point.

[00:54:27] [SPEAKER_04]: So when it is just like, oh my God, and they're making out,

[00:54:30] [SPEAKER_04]: you feel like you care about it.

[00:54:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Like I remember when I was younger watching this and then now just like,

[00:54:36] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't really care about this because it was just so like, oh my God,

[00:54:40] [SPEAKER_04]: we're in love with each other.

[00:54:41] [SPEAKER_03]: And at one point he does say, like, I wished for you to,

[00:54:47] [SPEAKER_03]: because she tells him, yeah, I cast a spell for you.

[00:54:50] [SPEAKER_03]: And he goes, well, I wished for you too.

[00:54:53] [SPEAKER_03]: I wish it would have been like, he has his little like journal from him.

[00:54:58] [SPEAKER_03]: He was, yeah.

[00:54:58] [SPEAKER_03]: And it had a list of traits that she had, like a little girl,

[00:55:03] [SPEAKER_03]: two little girls with red and brown hair, like just something where it's like,

[00:55:07] [SPEAKER_03]: oh yeah, this is like true love.

[00:55:11] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not just because of the spell or we are equally spellbound to this.

[00:55:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. Yeah.

[00:55:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I wish they would have done more to connect the two.

[00:55:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. But he does.

[00:55:22] [SPEAKER_03]: He has a letter that Sally had written to Jillian and like poured her heart out

[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_03]: about how she was feeling and stuff like that.

[00:55:30] [SPEAKER_03]: And so Sally does ask him, like, that letter has nothing to do with Jimmy.

[00:55:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, how many times have you read that?

[00:55:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I get that the return address is what brought you to our house.

[00:55:42] [SPEAKER_03]: But like, why have you, how many times have you read that letter?

[00:55:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Like it looks like a shit ton.

[00:55:47] [SPEAKER_03]: He is like, yeah, at least a thousand.

[00:55:50] [SPEAKER_03]: And then she's like, so like, that's the only inkling that like he's

[00:55:55] [SPEAKER_03]: into her as well, in my opinion.

[00:56:00] [SPEAKER_03]: That and just like not arresting her.

[00:56:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. Well, and the make out session.

[00:56:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah. And then we go into full blown, full blown make out.

[00:56:10] [SPEAKER_02]: And I think, I don't know if it's after the scene or not where she kind of tells him.

[00:56:14] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know when she figures out that this is the man from, oh, as they're making out,

[00:56:20] [SPEAKER_02]: she realizes he has one brown eye, one blue eye.

[00:56:22] [SPEAKER_02]: And then she says that out loud.

[00:56:24] [SPEAKER_02]: She's like, I'm out because she realizes it's from the spell that she cast.

[00:56:29] [SPEAKER_02]: And when she goes home, because as she's walking home,

[00:56:32] [SPEAKER_02]: she realizes that Jillian is in trouble.

[00:56:35] [SPEAKER_02]: She can hear her girls and she can hear Jillian.

[00:56:37] [SPEAKER_02]: So she runs home.

[00:56:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Jillian is in a bad way in her twin bed, like fuck.

[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Exorcist style.

[00:56:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Right.

[00:56:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Levitating.

[00:56:48] [SPEAKER_02]: It's not good.

[00:56:49] [SPEAKER_02]: So she goes to try to help her sister and oh boy must have followed her because he's there too.

[00:56:56] [SPEAKER_02]: And that's when he sees Jimmy come out and he is like, what the fuck is going on?

[00:57:06] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if this was intentional or if I just put something out there,

[00:57:11] [SPEAKER_04]: but I think part of her wish was like, he can hear my beck and call

[00:57:15] [SPEAKER_04]: from a mile away or like he knows something.

[00:57:18] [SPEAKER_04]: So I think if I remember when she's like running towards the house,

[00:57:22] [SPEAKER_04]: because she's worried about Jillian, it cuts to him really quickly.

[00:57:26] [SPEAKER_04]: And he kind of makes a face like something is wrong.

[00:57:29] [SPEAKER_04]: So I don't know if that was insinuating that that's the like

[00:57:33] [SPEAKER_04]: the bond that they have and then he decided to follow her.

[00:57:37] [SPEAKER_02]: That's so true.

[00:57:38] [SPEAKER_02]: So he sees Jimmy come out of Jillian's body.

[00:57:42] [SPEAKER_02]: And for some reason, instead of attacking Sally who killed him,

[00:57:45] [SPEAKER_02]: he goes and attacks the cop.

[00:57:47] [SPEAKER_02]: But I think he knows the cop has been.

[00:57:50] [SPEAKER_01]: They seem to have history.

[00:57:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think he's been following him for a long time trying to get him on this case.

[00:57:58] [SPEAKER_02]: And so he literally like tried to put his hand in his chest

[00:58:01] [SPEAKER_02]: and his fucking sheriff badge or whatever the hell that is.

[00:58:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Straight out Raiders of the Lost Ark style.

[00:58:10] [SPEAKER_01]: He's going to say like the mummy when he sees the cat.

[00:58:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the cat Bjork.

[00:58:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Bjorn.

[00:58:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Which one is it?

[00:58:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Bjorn.

[00:58:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Bjorn.

[00:58:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. So he's totally freaked out.

[00:58:24] [SPEAKER_02]: The spirit we think leaves because of his shield.

[00:58:29] [SPEAKER_02]: They have a conversation because she explains to him like,

[00:58:31] [SPEAKER_02]: oh my God, we're not really meant to be.

[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_02]: I cast a spell a long time ago when I was a kid.

[00:58:38] [SPEAKER_02]: And so like she's pretty much telling him this isn't going to work

[00:58:41] [SPEAKER_02]: because either you're going to I'm going to feel like you stayed because of the spell

[00:58:44] [SPEAKER_02]: and you're going to think that I'm with you because I don't want to go to jail.

[00:58:48] [SPEAKER_02]: So she tells him to go about his business.

[00:58:51] [SPEAKER_02]: And then he turns around and says, well, I wish for you to what?

[00:58:55] [SPEAKER_02]: That's sweet.

[00:58:56] [SPEAKER_02]: But also what?

[00:58:57] [SPEAKER_02]: What do you mean you wish for me?

[00:58:59] [SPEAKER_02]: How anymore?

[00:59:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe you ride the pony backwards.

[00:59:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he has magic too.

[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe.

[00:59:06] [SPEAKER_02]: So he all have.

[00:59:07] Yes.

[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, we do.

[00:59:11] [SPEAKER_02]: I just wish I had stronger magic and more vengeful magic.

[00:59:17] [SPEAKER_02]: So he leaves.

[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_02]: And then we realized that Jillian is still fucking haunted with this

[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_02]: because he does something really creepy.

[00:59:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Let me tell you something.

[00:59:26] [SPEAKER_02]: If my sister licked my face and tried to try to grope my breasts,

[00:59:34] [SPEAKER_02]: I would be disgusted.

[00:59:36] [SPEAKER_02]: For real.

[00:59:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeehaw you?

[00:59:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, no.

[00:59:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Get out.

[00:59:42] [SPEAKER_01]: She throws her against the wall.

[00:59:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.

[00:59:46] [SPEAKER_03]: So now poor Jillian's tied up on the recliner.

[00:59:50] [SPEAKER_02]: Because the aunts came back just at this moment.

[00:59:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Yep.

[00:59:55] [SPEAKER_03]: And they say they're going to try and do a banishing spell,

[00:59:59] [SPEAKER_03]: but they need a full coven of nine or 12.

[01:00:03] [SPEAKER_03]: And so Sally's like, I know people and gets out her phone tree.

[01:00:09] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm surprised they came, but it seems like it was the curiosity of like,

[01:00:14] [SPEAKER_02]: and that's usually why people make fun of other people.

[01:00:17] [SPEAKER_02]: They're scared because it's just so different.

[01:00:18] [SPEAKER_02]: But also there's secretly curious about what the hell is going on.

[01:00:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd say definitely the curiosity,

[01:00:27] [SPEAKER_01]: but also when she calls that girl right below her on the phone tree

[01:00:31] [SPEAKER_01]: who's in charge of getting everyone else,

[01:00:33] [SPEAKER_01]: she's talking about how Jillian had this bad boyfriend.

[01:00:37] [SPEAKER_01]: It's that sisterhood thing of like,

[01:00:39] [SPEAKER_01]: we can all relate to what that means.

[01:00:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And like, we will come together for someone dealing with like guy problems.

[01:00:47] [SPEAKER_02]: Very, very true.

[01:00:50] [SPEAKER_02]: The biggest issue I had was the one lady that came with a bag,

[01:00:56] [SPEAKER_02]: a little mini and she's like, this is all I had.

[01:00:59] [SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, bitch, who's cleaning your house?

[01:01:02] [SPEAKER_01]: But also, yeah, like because when they like lock together,

[01:01:07] [SPEAKER_01]: she's not in that scene.

[01:01:09] [SPEAKER_01]: You can't do that.

[01:01:10] [SPEAKER_03]: No, the little vacuum isn't there either.

[01:01:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Did they send her home?

[01:01:15] [SPEAKER_02]: I think she was still there.

[01:01:17] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought she was in the scene, but they just gave her a broom.

[01:01:22] [SPEAKER_02]: That's what I said in my head, but I didn't see her afterwards.

[01:01:28] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.

[01:01:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, and one of the ladies when she shows up, like the one

[01:01:33] [SPEAKER_03]: whose kid now has chicken pox,

[01:01:35] [SPEAKER_03]: she's like the ringleader of the like mean girls.

[01:01:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And they're like, we didn't even expect you to come.

[01:01:40] [SPEAKER_03]: And she's like, I just wanted to see the inside of your house.

[01:01:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she was like, I've always wanted to see the inside of your house.

[01:01:47] [SPEAKER_01]: You know that she says.

[01:01:49] [SPEAKER_02]: And she's like, Sally looked like no, what the fuck?

[01:01:52] [SPEAKER_04]: I didn't, but we were too busy calling me a bitch when I was a little girl.

[01:01:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Right.

[01:01:57] [SPEAKER_02]: So they do this spell and Jillian is riding on the floor.

[01:02:02] [SPEAKER_02]: This fucking beast won't come out.

[01:02:05] [SPEAKER_02]: And then Sally is scared that Jillian's not going to make it.

[01:02:09] [SPEAKER_02]: And at some point, Sally lays on the floor with Jillian and she,

[01:02:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Jillian's like, just let me go.

[01:02:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Let me die.

[01:02:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Once I die, this guy goes, Sally's like, I'm not fucking letting you die.

[01:02:21] [SPEAKER_02]: We're supposed to die together at the same time.

[01:02:23] [SPEAKER_02]: So bitch, you better get up.

[01:02:25] [SPEAKER_02]: And that's when she decides, oh, I know what to do.

[01:02:28] [SPEAKER_02]: I'll cut my motherfucking hand again.

[01:02:31] [SPEAKER_02]: And blood sister.

[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm bored with the tequila.

[01:02:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Laura, the man with the tequila, she gets in the circle with Jillian

[01:02:39] [SPEAKER_02]: and we learned the power of sisterhood will save us all.

[01:02:44] [SPEAKER_04]: Yes.

[01:02:44] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't have a sister.

[01:02:46] [SPEAKER_04]: So I was really curious how y'all like felt about that.

[01:02:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Just like the whole like the two sisters and their bond

[01:02:52] [SPEAKER_04]: and how they would do everything for each other.

[01:02:55] [SPEAKER_04]: Like how, like if it impacted y'all.

[01:02:58] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if both of you have sisters.

[01:03:00] [SPEAKER_04]: Stephanie, I don't know if you have a sister.

[01:03:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.

[01:03:03] [SPEAKER_04]: Okay.

[01:03:03] [SPEAKER_04]: So I'm the only one here without a sister.

[01:03:07] [SPEAKER_03]: I love my sister to death.

[01:03:09] [SPEAKER_03]: I did not think about her once during this movie.

[01:03:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, Jesus.

[01:03:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking when she got, well, like you were saying

[01:03:16] [SPEAKER_01]: when she's possessed originally and she like licks her face.

[01:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like, my sister is not a touchy person.

[01:03:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Like if my sister did that, it would just be so many red flags.

[01:03:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Rena?

[01:03:33] [SPEAKER_02]: With like all my sisters, I feel like I cried a bit during the movie

[01:03:40] [SPEAKER_02]: because I do feel a very strong closeness with my sisters

[01:03:45] [SPEAKER_02]: and we have very different relationships with all of them.

[01:03:49] [SPEAKER_02]: But like the getting in the bed and like joking around

[01:03:53] [SPEAKER_02]: and snuggling with each other or like, you know

[01:03:56] [SPEAKER_02]: patting each other's hair all that stuff very

[01:04:00] [SPEAKER_02]: and I could see myself just jumping on a plane

[01:04:03] [SPEAKER_02]: and all those things very it made it resonate way more with me.

[01:04:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I totally felt all the decisions that they were making

[01:04:10] [SPEAKER_02]: even when they were stupid is ride or die for your sisters.

[01:04:14] [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I felt that a lot.

[01:04:16] [SPEAKER_02]: I always feel really bad for people who hate their sisters

[01:04:20] [SPEAKER_02]: or like they don't get along because I feel like having a sister

[01:04:25] [SPEAKER_02]: is such a magical thing.

[01:04:28] [SPEAKER_02]: You get to share your crazy parent

[01:04:34] [SPEAKER_02]: and you have your own little secret language

[01:04:36] [SPEAKER_02]: and I didn't get sisters so much later in life

[01:04:39] [SPEAKER_02]: so I'm very thankful for it.

[01:04:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so my blood, your blood, our blood

[01:04:50] [SPEAKER_03]: and they blast Jimmy out of Jillian's body

[01:04:54] [SPEAKER_03]: and he turns to Ash.

[01:04:58] [SPEAKER_02]: And then they have to get sweeping his ass out

[01:05:01] [SPEAKER_02]: and then something they were boiling on the stove

[01:05:05] [SPEAKER_02]: that they have to pour over it

[01:05:08] [SPEAKER_02]: and then we see the like grass kind of sink

[01:05:10] [SPEAKER_02]: like Jimmy is really.

[01:05:14] [SPEAKER_03]: And so Jimmy's gone.

[01:05:17] [SPEAKER_03]: And then we see Sally gets some mail from Arizona

[01:05:21] [SPEAKER_03]: and it's a letter from Gary

[01:05:24] [SPEAKER_03]: and in the envelope is also the ring.

[01:05:27] [SPEAKER_03]: So the only piece of evidence he has linking Sally

[01:05:30] [SPEAKER_03]: and Jillian to the murder

[01:05:33] [SPEAKER_03]: other than the car sitting in their driveway,

[01:05:36] [SPEAKER_03]: she mails back to them.

[01:05:38] [SPEAKER_03]: So not like obstruction.

[01:05:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Right?

[01:05:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Sure is.

[01:05:42] [SPEAKER_02]: None of this shit is legal.

[01:05:44] [SPEAKER_02]: And then she says to Jillian like

[01:05:46] [SPEAKER_02]: what would you do, Jillian?

[01:05:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Jillian's like there's nothing I wouldn't do

[01:05:51] [SPEAKER_02]: or what wouldn't I do for a good man

[01:05:54] [SPEAKER_02]: or for the right man.

[01:05:55] [SPEAKER_02]: And so then she's like okay

[01:05:57] [SPEAKER_02]: let me go put on a very spirited dress

[01:06:00] [SPEAKER_02]: right on a leave and blow it in the wind

[01:06:02] [SPEAKER_02]: like Pocahontas and my man will come around.

[01:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And that he does.

[01:06:08] [SPEAKER_03]: He does.

[01:06:10] [SPEAKER_03]: And then we hear Crystal by the goddess witch herself

[01:06:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Stevie Nicks start playing.

[01:06:17] [SPEAKER_02]: I was wondering why I always associate this movie with her

[01:06:21] [SPEAKER_02]: and I guess I didn't realize

[01:06:23] [SPEAKER_02]: that she actually does have a song.

[01:06:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I just thought this movie was her vibes

[01:06:26] [SPEAKER_02]: like if you're making a Pinterest board

[01:06:28] [SPEAKER_02]: it's Stevie Nicks for sure.

[01:06:30] [SPEAKER_02]: But apparently she headlined the soundtrack.

[01:06:32] [SPEAKER_02]: She published advertisements

[01:06:34] [SPEAKER_02]: so that she could promote her song

[01:06:36] [SPEAKER_02]: if you ever did believe

[01:06:38] [SPEAKER_02]: which was a new recording of her song Crystal

[01:06:41] [SPEAKER_02]: which featured Cheryl Crowe on backup vocals on the song

[01:06:44] [SPEAKER_02]: and then we also have that Faith Hill song

[01:06:47] [SPEAKER_02]: This Kiss which was in so many movies during this time.

[01:06:52] [SPEAKER_02]: So many.

[01:06:56] [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah.

[01:06:57] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah and then they jump off the roof.

[01:06:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes it's Halloween

[01:07:01] [SPEAKER_03]: and Sally had said earlier

[01:07:03] [SPEAKER_03]: we only jump off the roof and fly on Halloween

[01:07:07] [SPEAKER_03]: and so we see them all on the roof

[01:07:10] [SPEAKER_03]: the girls included

[01:07:11] [SPEAKER_03]: and they don't have their brooms

[01:07:13] [SPEAKER_03]: which I find weird they just have umbrellas

[01:07:16] [SPEAKER_03]: and they just like jump off

[01:07:17] [SPEAKER_03]: and gently float to the ground.

[01:07:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Just like Rory Gilmore

[01:07:23] [SPEAKER_02]: and Gilmore Girls.

[01:07:25] [SPEAKER_02]: I do love that like at the scene she kisses Gary

[01:07:28] [SPEAKER_02]: but like he picks up her daughter

[01:07:30] [SPEAKER_02]: and gives her a kiss

[01:07:32] [SPEAKER_02]: so like you could tell they're already like a melded family

[01:07:36] [SPEAKER_03]: which is super sweet.

[01:07:38] [SPEAKER_03]: And they also are wearing socks

[01:07:40] [SPEAKER_03]: like the Wicked Witch of the West.

[01:07:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah that's right.

[01:07:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Like the striped socks.

[01:07:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah and then did you notice

[01:07:47] [SPEAKER_03]: like up until Michael dies

[01:07:49] [SPEAKER_03]: like when Sally is rejecting her powers

[01:07:55] [SPEAKER_03]: her hair is very straight and like long

[01:07:59] [SPEAKER_03]: and then the more she gets back into witchcraft

[01:08:03] [SPEAKER_03]: the more natural and flowy and wavy it becomes.

[01:08:07] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah I didn't put it together

[01:08:09] [SPEAKER_04]: but I did notice that it's like

[01:08:10] [SPEAKER_04]: it gets more like textured and curly

[01:08:13] [SPEAKER_04]: and she's even like styling it differently.

[01:08:16] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah I thought that was really cool.

[01:08:17] [SPEAKER_02]: She's getting back to the roots of Maria.

[01:08:19] [SPEAKER_02]: She was.

[01:08:22] [SPEAKER_02]: And that is practical magic.

[01:08:27] [SPEAKER_02]: I just wanted to do it with you at the same time.

[01:08:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you want to try it again?

[01:08:31] [SPEAKER_03]: We're not very good at being in sync but we can try.

[01:08:34] [SPEAKER_02]: It's all right.

[01:08:35] [SPEAKER_02]: The spirit was there.

[01:08:40] [SPEAKER_02]: We do have some like fun facts.

[01:08:44] [SPEAKER_02]: So we all talk about this wonderful house.

[01:08:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I was gutted to learn it not for these notes

[01:08:51] [SPEAKER_02]: but earlier that this house does not exist anymore

[01:08:55] [SPEAKER_02]: because they got rid of this house

[01:08:57] [SPEAKER_02]: and the Casper house killed me.

[01:09:00] [SPEAKER_02]: That it doesn't exist.

[01:09:02] [SPEAKER_02]: But so while much of the set from California

[01:09:04] [SPEAKER_02]: was brought to the location on San Juan Island

[01:09:08] [SPEAKER_02]: in the state of Washington

[01:09:10] [SPEAKER_02]: it took nearly a year to perfect the image of the house

[01:09:13] [SPEAKER_02]: and the interior.

[01:09:14] [SPEAKER_02]: The house actually is only a shell with nothing else inside.

[01:09:19] [SPEAKER_02]: It was only built for this filming

[01:09:21] [SPEAKER_02]: and was torn down after the film

[01:09:23] [SPEAKER_02]: so they're going to build this shit all over again.

[01:09:27] [SPEAKER_02]: I think they should have built it on the Warner Brothers lot

[01:09:30] [SPEAKER_02]: and you should be able to see it.

[01:09:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Or like it should be well it's not universal

[01:09:35] [SPEAKER_02]: but like this is something people want to see.

[01:09:38] [SPEAKER_02]: They build their whole existence around this fucking house.

[01:09:42] [SPEAKER_04]: People would make pilgrimages to this house.

[01:09:45] [SPEAKER_03]: I do love that like Barbra Streisand called them

[01:09:49] [SPEAKER_03]: and was like I want by this house

[01:09:51] [SPEAKER_03]: and they're like sorry.

[01:09:54] [SPEAKER_04]: This is the house that like we're all going to live in

[01:09:58] [SPEAKER_04]: once our husbands die.

[01:10:00] [SPEAKER_04]: We're all just going to collectively go live there.

[01:10:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh no, we're going to have the house and the husbands.

[01:10:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Jackie and I talked about this on another episode.

[01:10:09] [SPEAKER_02]: We have a house and the husbands live on the property

[01:10:12] [SPEAKER_02]: but in another house and they can come over.

[01:10:16] [SPEAKER_03]: That's fine.

[01:10:17] [SPEAKER_03]: And then we just have lots of pets

[01:10:19] [SPEAKER_03]: and we do crafts and drink midnight margaritas.

[01:10:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Just dramatic shawls.

[01:10:26] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll have my little greenhouse.

[01:10:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes.

[01:10:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Do you know that the soundtrack,

[01:10:35] [SPEAKER_02]: there's like two versions of it.

[01:10:37] [SPEAKER_02]: So after bad reactions at a test screening,

[01:10:40] [SPEAKER_02]: composer Michael Niemann's score was rejected at the last minute.

[01:10:43] [SPEAKER_02]: It was called too European sounding and obtrusive.

[01:10:47] [SPEAKER_02]: It was replaced with one by Alan Silvestri.

[01:10:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Silvestri.

[01:10:54] [SPEAKER_02]: The change was made so late that the soundtrack albums

[01:10:58] [SPEAKER_02]: had already been pressed.

[01:11:00] [SPEAKER_02]: So as a result, the first batch to hit stores

[01:11:02] [SPEAKER_02]: all had two suites of themes from Niemann's score

[01:11:06] [SPEAKER_02]: and a few weeks later,

[01:11:08] [SPEAKER_02]: a new version of the CD with the same ISBN number

[01:11:11] [SPEAKER_02]: was made replacing Niemann's tracks with music by Silvestri.

[01:11:16] [SPEAKER_03]: I wonder if that's like a coveted item.

[01:11:19] [SPEAKER_03]: If you find a copy of the original score.

[01:11:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Probably, yeah.

[01:11:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Because it didn't seem like too many were made.

[01:11:30] [SPEAKER_03]: And the cast did state in the film's commentary

[01:11:33] [SPEAKER_03]: that they felt like supernatural elements

[01:11:35] [SPEAKER_03]: at the house started to affect them.

[01:11:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Both cast and crew claim they heard supernatural noises

[01:11:40] [SPEAKER_03]: while filming the coven scene at the end of the movie.

[01:11:43] [SPEAKER_02]: And this is not the first time we've heard this

[01:11:45] [SPEAKER_02]: because when we did the craft,

[01:11:47] [SPEAKER_02]: they said the same thing happened.

[01:11:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I think because they had so many talismans

[01:11:53] [SPEAKER_02]: and they were using a lot of real things

[01:11:56] [SPEAKER_02]: from a witchcraft standpoint,

[01:11:59] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, they were messing with some shit.

[01:12:03] [SPEAKER_02]: And as we kind of mentioned in June of this year,

[01:12:07] [SPEAKER_02]: it was announced that the sequel was in development

[01:12:10] [SPEAKER_02]: and Bullock and Kinman are going to return to star

[01:12:13] [SPEAKER_02]: and produce the film with Dinovi,

[01:12:15] [SPEAKER_02]: who was one of the original producers

[01:12:17] [SPEAKER_02]: and Akiva Goldsman who co-wrote the screenplay

[01:12:20] [SPEAKER_02]: for the original.

[01:12:22] [SPEAKER_02]: I hope it's a he.

[01:12:24] [SPEAKER_02]: They will return to write the script.

[01:12:28] [SPEAKER_02]: We don't know any specific plots,

[01:12:30] [SPEAKER_02]: but we do know that it will be based

[01:12:32] [SPEAKER_02]: on Alice Hoffman's 2021 novel, The Book of Magic,

[01:12:36] [SPEAKER_02]: the fourth installment of her practical magic series.

[01:12:40] [SPEAKER_03]: And you know how, sorry.

[01:12:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Do you want to know how to get a free trip

[01:12:44] [SPEAKER_03]: out of the studio?

[01:12:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Lie about being able to speak French

[01:12:50] [SPEAKER_03]: like Stockard Channing did

[01:12:51] [SPEAKER_03]: just so she could get a trip to Paris

[01:12:53] [SPEAKER_03]: to record the French dubbing.

[01:12:56] [SPEAKER_03]: I feel like that's on them for that.

[01:12:59] [SPEAKER_03]: No way.

[01:13:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, can you give us an example, Stockard?

[01:13:04] [SPEAKER_02]: How would you guys have felt

[01:13:06] [SPEAKER_02]: about a practical magic TV show?

[01:13:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Like, do you think you would have watched it?

[01:13:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I would have if they nailed the Wimza Gothic.

[01:13:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.

[01:13:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, we were close to it not once, but twice.

[01:13:23] [SPEAKER_02]: In 2004, Warner Brothers and CBS produced

[01:13:26] [SPEAKER_02]: a pilot written by Becky Hartman Edwards

[01:13:29] [SPEAKER_02]: and was starring Kim Delaney and your girl,

[01:13:32] [SPEAKER_02]: what's her name?

[01:13:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Jerry Ryan.

[01:13:35] [SPEAKER_02]: So she was going to play the Nicole Kidman part,

[01:13:39] [SPEAKER_02]: but it didn't get picked up.

[01:13:41] [SPEAKER_02]: So then they tried again in 2010

[01:13:46] [SPEAKER_02]: to have an ABC Family prequel television series,

[01:13:50] [SPEAKER_02]: but it didn't go anywhere.

[01:13:52] [SPEAKER_03]: There's a charm after this sequel.

[01:13:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And a little continuity error

[01:14:00] [SPEAKER_03]: at the part where Evan Rachel Wood's character says,

[01:14:03] [SPEAKER_03]: but daddy had brown eyes wasn't exactly true

[01:14:05] [SPEAKER_03]: for the actor who played her father,

[01:14:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Mark Fierstein, who has blue eyes.

[01:14:11] [SPEAKER_03]: No one will notice.

[01:14:14] [SPEAKER_02]: No, nobody's paying attention.

[01:14:15] [SPEAKER_02]: All right, before we get into the ratings, Stephanie,

[01:14:17] [SPEAKER_02]: why don't you tell everybody

[01:14:18] [SPEAKER_02]: where they can find you on social and your podcast?

[01:14:24] [SPEAKER_01]: It's Books in the Freezer podcast,

[01:14:26] [SPEAKER_01]: which you can find everywhere that you listen to podcasts.

[01:14:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm on Instagram and TikTok at Books in the Freezer,

[01:14:33] [SPEAKER_01]: on Twitter at Books Freezer Pod,

[01:14:35] [SPEAKER_01]: and on Facebook at facebook.com slash Books in the Freezer.

[01:14:39] [SPEAKER_02]: And you guys can check us out at No More Late Fees

[01:14:42] [SPEAKER_02]: on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, and threads.

[01:14:46] [SPEAKER_02]: And Stephanie, we will start with you.

[01:14:48] [SPEAKER_02]: What is your today present day rating of Practical Magic?

[01:14:52] [SPEAKER_01]: It is a would buy it again rating for me.

[01:14:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, I watched this when it came out

[01:15:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and I feel like it was kind of forgettable for me at that age,

[01:15:03] [SPEAKER_01]: but I was pretty young.

[01:15:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I rediscovered this, I want to say in 2016

[01:15:09] [SPEAKER_01]: and it has escalated to like comfort film.

[01:15:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I watched it to transition into fall.

[01:15:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it takes place at summer solstice,

[01:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: but it's got these witchy vibes.

[01:15:20] [SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like it's that perfect like end of summer into fall,

[01:15:25] [SPEAKER_01]: like you get into spooky season

[01:15:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and the sisterhood and the community

[01:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's like costumes, the soundtrack, everything.

[01:15:35] [SPEAKER_02]: How about you Laura?

[01:15:38] [SPEAKER_04]: I think it is still a very strong five-day rental.

[01:15:42] [SPEAKER_04]: I've always like, I don't watch it all the time,

[01:15:46] [SPEAKER_04]: but I know I'm always fond of it

[01:15:48] [SPEAKER_04]: and it was one of those movies where when it was on TV,

[01:15:51] [SPEAKER_04]: my best friend and I like we would text each other,

[01:15:54] [SPEAKER_04]: even though we were so far apart,

[01:15:56] [SPEAKER_04]: like I was in a different part of the state

[01:15:58] [SPEAKER_04]: and we would text each other and be like,

[01:16:00] [SPEAKER_04]: practical magic is on

[01:16:01] [SPEAKER_04]: and we would like be watching it together

[01:16:03] [SPEAKER_04]: even though we were apart.

[01:16:04] [SPEAKER_04]: So like that holds a special place in my heart

[01:16:06] [SPEAKER_04]: because like it's just another thing

[01:16:08] [SPEAKER_04]: that like kept us together.

[01:16:10] [SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, absolutely very strong five-day rental.

[01:16:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Shout out to Liz.

[01:16:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Danielle, what is your present day rating?

[01:16:21] [SPEAKER_02]: I think similar to Stephanie,

[01:16:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I have grown to love it even more.

[01:16:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Like I love Sandra Bullock.

[01:16:27] [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not really sure why I never bought it

[01:16:30] [SPEAKER_02]: when I was younger or like I wasn't obsessed with it,

[01:16:33] [SPEAKER_02]: but now I'm like, I really like it

[01:16:35] [SPEAKER_02]: and it's funny one Halloween,

[01:16:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I made Serena watch Teen Witch, hated it,

[01:16:40] [SPEAKER_02]: had a lot of commentary

[01:16:43] [SPEAKER_02]: and then I made her watch this one

[01:16:44] [SPEAKER_02]: and she like absolutely loved the vibes.

[01:16:47] [SPEAKER_02]: So I think I'm gonna stay at a five-day rental

[01:16:50] [SPEAKER_02]: because I only watch it during the fall

[01:16:54] [SPEAKER_02]: and I don't watch it every year

[01:16:56] [SPEAKER_02]: like my sister and I will watch Hocus Pocus every year.

[01:16:59] [SPEAKER_02]: We don't watch this one every year so.

[01:17:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Jackie?

[01:17:02] [SPEAKER_03]: I am going to agree, five-day rental.

[01:17:07] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a lot of fun.

[01:17:08] [SPEAKER_03]: If we needed just a fun fall movie, definitely throw it on

[01:17:14] [SPEAKER_03]: and Ken was like,

[01:17:17] [SPEAKER_03]: why have Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman

[01:17:20] [SPEAKER_03]: never made another movie together?

[01:17:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Their chemistry is so good together

[01:17:25] [SPEAKER_03]: and it's so believable that they are sisters

[01:17:28] [SPEAKER_03]: and he's just like, I want more of that.

[01:17:31] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm really excited for the second movie.
