Seven years lost in space, a spaceship straight out of hell, and Sam Neill making some deeply questionable decisions. What could possibly go wrong? This week on No More Late Fees, Jackie and Danielle revisit Event Horizon (1997), the cult sci-fi horror movie starring Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill. Joining them are returning guests Mike and Mike from Mike and Mike Go to the Movies and The Complete Works. But does this '90s horror favorite deserve its cult classic status, or should it stay lost somewhere near Neptune?
From a spaceship that looks like a medieval torture chamber to the infamous footage that was too disturbing for theaters, there's plenty to unpack. The crew debates Paul W.S. Anderson's filmmaking choices, Sam Neill's increasingly unhinged performance, and why nobody thought to question a hallway that resembles a meat grinder. Plus, Danielle tries to make sense of the disturbing visions, Jackie struggles with the science of bending space, and Mike and Mike explain why this bloody blend of Alien, Hellraiser, and The Shining is worth revisiting.
With two first-time viewers and two longtime fans aboard, will Event Horizon earn a better rating in the Ratings Rewind, or is this one rescue mission nobody should have accepted? Tune in for a nostalgic movie review filled with '90s horror, Y2K nostalgia, and plenty of laughs. Follow No More Late Fees on Spotify and leave us a rating!
