Top Jennifer Love Hewitt Movies

In this bonus episode of No More Late Fees, Danielle and Jackie welcome their friend Nick for a nostalgic deep dive into the career of 90s and 2000s icon Jennifer Love Hewitt. From ranking her most memorable roles—like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heartbreakers, and Can't Hardly Wait—to uncovering the shocking list of movies she almost starred in (imagine her as Lara Croft or in The Wedding Planner!), they explore how JLove became a cultural fixture of the era. Along the way, they reminisce about her omnipresence in teen magazines, music videos, and MTV, making the case for why she felt like she was everywhere, even if her filmography was surprisingly limited.

But the trip down memory lane doesn’t stop there! Nick adds some classic baseball flicks to his ever-growing "Employee Picks" shelf, sparking a lively debate about sports movies (and a hilarious mix-up involving hockey). Tune in for plenty of laughs, some good-natured roasting, and a heartfelt appreciation for the queen of 90s teen entertainment.

[00:00:00] Before she was breaking hearts and heartbreakers, Jennifer Love Hewitt was the queen of the 90s and 2000s movies and TV. In this bonus episode, we're ranking our favorite J-Love roles, getting Nick's employee picks, and diving into the shocking list of classics she almost started. Get ready for a trip down memory lane as we celebrate one of the ultimate teen queens of our era.

[00:00:38] Welcome to the No More Late Fees podcast. I'm Danielle. And I'm Jackie. And in this bonus episode, we're ranking our favorite J-Love roles with our pal Nick. Will it be love or torture this time around? I guess we will see. Welcome, Nick. Thank you. Both and, right? Both and. Every time. It's always love and torture. Both and. Yes. Absolutely. Long time no see, Nick.

[00:01:07] I know, I know. I just hung out with you. Yeah, how was Disney, guys? It was mostly very, very good. Yeah, we had a blast. There was one day, I think they like cratered the price for locals admissions on like Tuesday. And so out of nowhere, Tuesday was bonkers at Disney.

[00:01:28] But it was a blast. And it was great to see Jackie and Ken. And they were so wonderful with my children. And we had just a wonderful time. It was magical. Despite the headache that was Tuesday, the overall trip was magical. So, Jackie, do you like Disneyland or Disney World better? Ooh! That's cool. So, Disneyland, I like to describe as Bizarro Disney World.

[00:01:53] Because it's all kind of the same, but different. Mm-hmm. Do we need to talk about when one came first? Because I think Disney World is Bizarro Disneyland. So, Disney World is like Disneyland on steroids. Everything's bigger. Everything's more spread out. So you're not wrong.

[00:02:18] I do love having DCA, which is completely different from anything we have in Orlando. Yeah, they're just both, they're fun, but different. I do really enjoy being able to like walk from one park to the other. It's like a thousand feet from the entrance to Disneyland to DCA. So that's really nice. Well. Very diplomatic answer, Jackie. Thank you.

[00:02:47] I've done my due diligence as a best friend by making sure to ask about Disney. Duly noted. I mean, like, I really wanted to know, but you know, you said DCA and you lost me. I was like, I don't know what that is. It's Disney California Adventure and they have like, most of it is Pixar. Oh.

[00:03:13] They have like a little bit of like their Tower of Terror is now themed Guardians of the Galaxy, which is in DCA. And then they have, they have a couple of rides that we have like the Little Mermaid and things like, and Toy Story Mania. But a lot of it is like Pixar centric, which I really enjoy because like we don't have that in Disney World. We may get like. We have Toy Story World. That's about it. Right. Or that Toy Story area and MGM.

[00:03:43] Yeah. It is like Disney's California Adventure is like its own smaller theme park that is themed around California. So there's like an old Hollywood section. There's like a, you know, kind of San Francisco, Santa Cruz boardwalk kind of wharf section. There's like a Redwood Coast kind of section. And, but yeah, but the attractions are, yeah, it's mostly, there's a Cars Land and there's a Pixar Pier. So it's like mostly Pixar themed and Avengers themed attractions. Yes. Yeah.

[00:04:12] The Avengers campus is really cool. Yeah. And we saw most of the Avengers. They were out and about. It was. Yeah. We saw Black Panther. The only one I missed, which Ken saw was Cap. And I was really sad that I missed him, but everyone else we saw. So let's rank Jennifer Love Hewitt movies. Looking at her catalog.

[00:04:42] She's been in surprisingly few things. Like I thought she was in a lot more. Really? Wait. I think she's done a lot of TV. So maybe we can include television as well. Yeah. I was, I was looking at the notes. I did. I was like, okay, rank like my top three Jennifer. I've only seen three Jennifer Love Hewitt movies. Now, granted, I love those three. Like those are a strong three.

[00:05:09] Like I would put those three on a list, but I was like, I've only got three, but I love those. I'm like writing down right now. And I'm like, oh, I'm just, I'm writing down bangers. What are they talking about? I have some. I was just saying that like, I thought she went in a lot more than she has been. I think what she did was so kind of like, I don't know, of the time, like culturally powerful. Like she just felt like she was everywhere.

[00:05:38] Yeah. Because of the movie she was in and because of like the person that she was at that moment, like it really felt like she was just kind of everywhere for a few years. But it didn't, it didn't take much to kind of get that sort of cultural impact. Right. Well, it's like who she was dating. She was in all the teenie bopper things. And then she was in every, think about how many music videos she was in because like guys were, she was a smash mouth.

[00:06:04] She was in LFO, one of their, the girl in the TV one. She was, she, she had her own singing career. So she was making her own music videos. And then she was dating a lot of high profile people. So maybe. I think we just got saturation from her all around. Like she was in all of the teenie bopper magazines that we read. And then she was like on MTV all the time because she surrounded herself with people that were on MTV.

[00:06:34] Like it was just, we got her from a lot of angles. Right. She was also in the Enrique Iglesias video, music video hero. Like I'm telling you that girl was that she stayed on MTV for real. Like trying to see which other ones she was in. They don't have her smash mouth music video. They do. Is it? I saw it. Yeah. IMDB. Maybe I haven't gotten to it.

[00:07:04] Maybe I missed it. Can't get enough of you, baby. 1998. Oh, is that what? Yes. Okay. Yeah. All right. What y'all got? Nick, guess first. I was going to say, can I go first? Cause I only got three. I know what you did last summer. Heartbreakers. And can't hardly wait. All right.

[00:07:32] And that's, I mean, I'm like, that's, that's enough for me. Like with those three movies, like, man, like that was everything. That's solid. Yeah. I was like, that, that's enough. That is more than enough to have you. And not like in a bad way. I'm like, that's, that's all I need. It was great. It was great. Well, I, can I go Jack? Go ahead. All right. Number one, house arrest. Can't wait till we do that one. Classic. Number two, Heartbreakers.

[00:08:02] And number three, can't hardly wait. If I was going to do TV shows though, number one, Kids Incorporated. Number two, Party of Five. Number three, that episode of Boy Meets World where they were spoofing. I know what you did last summer. Boom. Girl, you have my list because I have Kids Incorporated, Can't Hardly Wait, and Boy Meets World.

[00:08:30] But if we're just doing movies and just to, to, to spread the love, I have, I will go Trojan War, Sister Act Two, and Can't Hardly Wait. Fuck. I love Sister Act Two, but like, she's barely in it. She was in it. She was there. She was. I totally forgot about that.

[00:08:59] Well, honorable mention, Kids Incorporated and the Boy Meets World episode where she was Jennifer Love-Pfefferman. Yeah, because she was dating Will Friedle at that time. She dated Carson Daly. I think she dated one of the guys from LFO. Yeah. Man, I love LFO. Their songs made no sense, but they were catchy as hell. Well, true.

[00:09:29] Facts. They were street poets of the time. Well, now that we've realized that she wasn't in as much as we thought, let's talk about what she could have been in. I, this list is, breaks my brain. So, Jennifer Love-Hewitt could have starred in the following roles. Bewitched. Broke Down Palace. I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry. Lara Croft.

[00:09:59] Lolita. Mallrats. Romeo and Juliet. Scooby-Doo. Which she was up for either Velma. For both. They were considering her for both Velma and Daphne. Valentine. And Jackie, the wedding planner. So, which role do you wish that she actually got out of these? Or, I mean, at least you could see her in it.

[00:10:29] I don't. I will go Lara Croft. Like, I think I would have liked to see her in an action movie. Yeah. I mean, wasn't she in that Jackie Chan movie? I mean. Yeah, the one. Or not the one. What is that one? The tuxedo. The tuxedo. Yes. Did she do any action in this action movie? Or was she just Jennifer Love-Hewitt next to Jackie Chan? I never saw it. I never saw it. I never. Who knows? Is it in our time frame?

[00:10:58] Do we have to do the tuxedo? Now I'm worried. Now that I know. Like, knowing that she had pretty decent chemistry with Jason Lee in Heartbreakers. Jason Lee? Yeah. I could imagine her in Mallrats. But I feel like she would have been. Maybe she wasn't too young. But she turned 21 when she did Heartbreakers. And that was in 2001. So Mallrats came out, what, like 95?

[00:11:29] She was like, let me. Yeah. So I don't even know how she could have been considered. She'd have been too young for that. Yeah, 95. Yeah. I don't know. I think the cast of Scooby-Doo is perfect. I'm glad she didn't do Valentine because it's like, I love her as a scream queen. But like, that movie was so god awful. Damn. Running out of things. Bewitched was just a shitty movie. Like, she could have done it.

[00:11:58] But it's still going to be a shitty movie. Like, the only thing keeping that thing afloat was it was Nicole Kidman. I'm sorry. Like, she wouldn't have been able to carry that. I would say The Wedding Planner. I wouldn't have mine. I wouldn't. Because you know, and when we do that movie, I know it's going to be hard. Because Jackie loves that movie. And I'm going to be like, I love J-Lo. But I don't. That is the one J-Lo rom-com that I just like can never get on board with.

[00:12:26] Maybe when I rewatch it for the episode, I'll be different. But yeah, I wouldn't have minded to see her in it. I don't know. Maybe through our spirited conversation, I will convert you to a Wedding Planner fan. Maybe. I am a sucker for a J-Lo rom-com. Like, objectively, some of them are not great. But I still love them, so. Yeah. Well. Nick, did you pick one?

[00:12:55] No, I was contemplating like what, where does like Romeo and Juliet fit into like this timeline? Like if she had gotten Romeo and Juliet, would she have kind of like gone a different road? And like not been this kind of like, you know, I don't know. Plucky chemistry kind of, you know. Unfortunately, it's like she can really act. Because like if you ever watch Party of Five, the girl has this, she has the skills.

[00:13:20] But I think because she was, you know, she had really big boobs. And unfortunately, especially when you like develop earlier as a girl, like your girlhood is gone. I know this from experience. Like. I had big boobs pretty early on. And that was it. Like, I could never be like the cute and innocent vibe situation because I was being sexualized. And so that's what happened to her. So. I think.

[00:13:49] She talks about that too. Yeah. Even the girl who played Punky Brewster in that, what, Kid 90, is that what it was called? I can't remember what her documentary is called. She talked about, she went and she had a breast reduction surgery at an early age because when it was time for her to transition from like the child to tween teen roles, they were already trying to sexualize her.

[00:14:16] And also they like weren't giving her the roles because like that didn't fit the aesthetic essentially. So. Mm hmm. She. Yeah. Poor. Wasn't Claire Danes in Broke Down Palace? Mm hmm. Yep. So yeah. I wonder if she would have gone like that more indie kind of like not as big, glossy, shiny blockbusters as she did.

[00:14:46] You know? Yeah. Yeah. That's what I was thinking of. Like she would have. Yeah. Would have gone a bit. Had a different experience. But it is. Yeah. It's a shame that she like couldn't be a cute, innocent tween. You know, she couldn't be a Juliet like a, you know. Yeah. Yeah. Because she was, she went from being 12 to being 20 like overnight. Yeah. In the eyes of Hollywood. Like that's, that's tragic. Yeah. Did you pick, did you pick one? Nick? That I would want?

[00:15:17] Yeah. Like that you'd want to see her in. I just want to make sure we don't miss that. Yeah. No, I'm like, I don't honestly, like I'm looking at all these and I'm kind of with you. I'm like, I don't think like having her in any one of these would have changed the movie at all. Like, I'm just like, no, not really. I know. It's kind of a weird thing where it's like, we got this Jennifer Love Hewitt. And I'm like, actually, you know, I think I got, I got the Jennifer Love Hewitt that I would have envisioned and wanted. Yeah. Like the wedding planner would have been cool.

[00:15:41] Like, cause she kind of fits that vibe now, like now, but yeah, like I, you know, Laura Croft would have been cool. But I don't know if she could do like any of the action stuff. She probably could. Yeah. I don't know. I'm like, looking at that list. I'm like, that is quite a list to kind of like be constantly second best, you know, or second, second to be runner up. Yeah. But I'm like, I'm good with that though. I don't know. I'm like, eh. I sound like a Jennifer Love Hewitt hater right now. I'm just like, you know. She's fine.

[00:16:10] I mean, everything worked out the way it was supposed to. Yeah. We'll leave it at that. It is. It is. Like I'm thinking about this though. Like, okay. Like we'll probably, they'll come up talking about it in our conversation, but like I had like 16 year old me has such a crush on Jennifer Love Hewitt. I was, I was smitten. Like, so I don't know. She was on my like computer desktop for a while. Right.

[00:16:38] Like I was that kind of dumb ass boy, but like, I was a big fan of Jennifer Love Hewitt, but I'm not like, I don't know. I'm like looking at this list of movies. I'm like, I don't need her in any more movies though. I'm okay. Satisfied with what I got. Well, now Nick, we have to put you back in the hot seat for your employee picks.

[00:17:03] So let's see what movies you'll stock on the shelves at Blockbuster or Hollywood video, whichever you prefer. So your list is getting pretty extensive. So your previous picks are The Life Aquatic, Almost Famous, Out Cold, Swingers, Pick It Up Scott in the 90s, Titan A.E. and Elf. What'd you got for us this time? Okay. I'm like, man, that's a really good list, by the way.

[00:17:32] That was a solid, solid rack of movies right there. Especially Pick It Up Scott in the 90s. It's going to just honorable mention that one, always. But no, I was ready this time. I am ready. So it is March. It is springtime. I'm coming up with some employee picks on a theme. We're going 2005's Fever Pitch. Okay. 2002's The Rookie. Okay. And 1993's The Sandlot.

[00:18:01] These are all hockey movies? Oh, for God's sake. I quit. I quit. I fucking quit. Never coming back to the show again. So well, up until Danielle just had to turn the knife a little bit. All right, Nick. I know these are all foosball movies. Okay. Danielle. Unbelievable.

[00:18:32] I appreciate your spring training list, Nick. Thank you. Thank you. Which, by the way, just, okay, does it fit? Does that thing you do fit into your timeline? Yeah. It does. Because I was like, because when I said that, I was like, and I quit. I quit. I quit. You ain't never quitting. You ain't never going nowhere. You're always coming back.

[00:19:01] It was almost on the list for 2025. It was almost on the list for 2025. And we had to do some rearranging. So it got bumped. All right. Call me in 2026. By then I might be over this absolute just offensive slander of the sport of baseball. But yeah, call me when you do that thing you do. But otherwise, yeah. So we got a baseball list this time. Fever pitch the rookie. Yeah. Love it. Well, don't forget to hit us up at no more late fees on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook,

[00:19:30] YouTube threads, and Blue Sky if you have favorite hockey movies that you want to add to Nick's list. And don't miss us next week as we celebrate Jackie's birthday with multiplicity. Our wallet is going to drive a car. It's my birthday movie. I got to choose. All right. I like pizza, Steve. And as always, be kind and play ball.

[00:20:02] Let's try that again. As always. Be kind and rewind.
