[00:02:23] and all the journeys are out so that's really good purchase actually. I need to go get one for myself.
[00:02:30] Me too, absolutely. But let's get into the movie.
[00:02:34] So during the early 1960s, high school teen Odets and Claire is transferred to her great dismay from a
[00:02:42] co-ed institution to an all girls New England boarding school. After learning that plans are in
[00:02:49] in the works to merge misguided school for girls with a nearby boys institution, she and her
[00:02:56] sorority sister Verna Vaughan Stefan. I couldn't even think of how to say that.
[00:03:06] Verna Vaughan Stefan goes on strike against the school. Throughout the pair are pitted against meddling
[00:03:13] the pair are pitted against the meddling school monitor Abigail Sawyer.
[00:03:18] It stars Kirsten Dunst, Gabby Hoffman, Lynn Redgrave, Rachel E. Cook, Thomas Geary,
[00:03:25] Vincent Carticia, Monica Keena, Matthew Lawrence, Heather Madderazo and Merit Weaver.
[00:03:32] And it was written and directed by Sarah Kurnichin.
[00:03:38] And it's really hard to find we ended up finding it on YouTube in pieces.
[00:03:49] Actually I think it was just on Paramount Plus like a month ago and I was able to.
[00:03:53] It was. It was yeah and it was on Max a while back and so by the time it was like
[00:04:01] where the hell is this thing? So I'm like on TikTok watching a sped up version of the beginning try.
[00:04:08] So we both did the best we could with that one. And I thought I had it on DVD but
[00:04:14] I was wrong. Yeah, I have it but it's lost somewhere but I know I own it.
[00:04:24] But before we start let's go heading into our ratings rewind.
[00:04:28] So you know the drill before we get into the movie what we're veiled the rating are white two
[00:04:32] k versions of ourselves would give then at the end we'll see if our current selves agree with
[00:04:36] our initial rating. Our scale consists of wood buy it would buy it again.
[00:04:42] The best would play on repeat. Five-day rental.
[00:04:45] Wood watch again. Two-day rental. Okay but nothing's right home about.
[00:04:51] And same day rental. Up your Ziggy with a wallaw brush.
[00:04:56] Perfect. Love it. So Zach I'm going to start with you what is your white two k rating
[00:05:01] of this movie? It definitely would be would buy it would buy it again.
[00:05:07] For sure I was obsessed with this. Jackie? Upon rewatch. I remembered surprisingly little about
[00:05:15] this movie. So I would say I mean I know we did watch it and we quoted it so we would we had to
[00:05:25] have watched a couple of times. I'll go with five-day rental. What?
[00:05:31] I am shook it this is a Jackie Danielle exclusive movie. I remember like nothing about it
[00:05:36] but that doesn't mean you didn't love it when we got it.
[00:05:40] I cannot believe this is happening but okay.
[00:05:45] Drama? It's a wood buy I bought it I just think I had it on VHS and I didn't rebuy it on DVD.
[00:05:53] Hi, chef.
[00:05:58] The budget for the movie was $5 million and it made $907,000 plus so it did not live up to its
[00:06:09] budget but this wasn't indie. It was picked up by Miramax which isn't a surprise because they were
[00:06:16] eaten up in D's at that time for $3.5 million and was given a limited release in the United States
[00:06:24] and it was under the title all I want to do but then Miramax found the film's original working
[00:06:30] tidy that tidy title the Harry bird which alluded to male genitals to be too offensive so that's
[00:06:39] why it changed but it didn't change as we learn and I believe Australia so when it was released in
[00:06:48] Canada and the United Kingdom under the title strike the Canadian British title became an alternative
[00:06:55] name for later releases on the US based digital platform such as like Amazon YouTube and so on.
[00:07:03] So that's why we keep seeing this like strike versus all I want to do though with the US title being
[00:07:09] used in the opening credits Australia was the only country in which Miramax released the original
[00:07:15] title I guess they felt Australians were dirty enough for the Harry bird. In March of 2000 the film
[00:07:24] was re-released in New York at the United's artist and movie theater in Union Square and it
[00:07:32] grossed about $5,000 the director has gone on record saying that Miramax co-chairman Harvey
[00:07:40] douchebag intentionally shell the film while douchebag was initially enthusiastic about the film and
[00:07:48] told the director that she you know it would screen in 2000 theaters across the US the Miramax
[00:07:55] ultimately gave the film no publicity and distributed the film in limited release mostly in Canada
[00:08:01] the film was eventually acquired by Disney and went straight to video.
[00:08:09] It's so funny because I remember when this was or when I first heard about it was like
[00:08:14] I think it was a scene like a trailer before like on a VHS tape that I rented and I was like what is
[00:08:20] this movie? I've never I didn't hear anything about it didn't know anything about it and it was
[00:08:24] called all I want to do and I remember it was already out they're like oh go you know rented an hour
[00:08:29] by it now and I went to my local video store and I was like do you guys have all I want to do and
[00:08:33] the person working was like what is that movie? I've never heard of it ever. And it was years before
[00:08:39] I actually was able to find it and yeah I yeah it's the I mean this this movie had no chance really
[00:08:47] when you list everything like that there's just no way it was gonna survive the changing titles
[00:08:53] no publicity hardly any theaters like how how would it how would it do well there's no way
[00:08:58] yeah I mean are we surprised that big douchebag didn't want a movie about female empowerment to do well
[00:09:07] and I'm not surprised in the slightest and I think at that time with so many tween teen movies like
[00:09:15] it well I don't know if it would have been like huge but I think people would have gone to see
[00:09:20] it especially with Kirsten Dunnson get me off and I think Jackie and I found it because we were
[00:09:26] in that pipeline already it had all the indie girls in it and I'm sure we saw it from an indie
[00:09:34] movie like a trailer you'll be like welcome to the dollhouse or something like yeah oh well what's
[00:09:41] that let's go look for it next time yeah so yeah there was a lot of lines we repeated them
[00:09:50] quite a bit I do love a boarding school movie me too very always always fun
[00:09:58] so yeah the let's see if there's any fun facts about the cast so Monica Keena and Mayor Weaver
[00:10:07] were real-life classmates at La Guadrilla High School which is if you don't know is the fame school
[00:10:14] in New York City you guys got that for free I'm just sad because like with these smaller indie movies
[00:10:23] it's really really hard to find any fun facts right it was limited but I was watching videos
[00:10:30] searching for the peanuts not much was there you know it's funny too because you know in the lead
[00:10:38] I want yeah I don't want to just say in the 90s but you know the trend of naming movies after songs
[00:10:43] of that time that are really big because I was watching it and I'm like why is this called all I
[00:10:49] want to do like I understand on some level but and then I'm like when did that song come out by
[00:10:54] Cheryl Crowe I'm like was that why this was called that honestly because I was like there's driving
[00:11:00] crazy and then I'm like I'm like was that was that was all I want to do like the biggest song of
[00:11:06] the year when this movie was released I don't know I don't know just something to think about I
[00:11:12] guess yeah because I don't usually sometimes I'll say the title in the movie so like I don't
[00:11:19] remember them doing that no all I want to do is release the 1993 oh okay then they're going
[00:11:27] my big carry a dash your no you're incorrect it was actually released
[00:11:32] it's this I just didn't come on here and lie like that it's fine it's fine I feel like it's so sad
[00:11:40] that we never got a kirsten dunce kirsten dunce kirsten to reach across over in a movie
[00:11:48] and I feel like if there was going to be one movie where it would have randomly happened it
[00:11:52] should have been this one oh absolutely I mean Gabby should have just said yo bestie come do this
[00:11:58] movie with me because I just feel like she would have fit perfectly with the rest of the cast what do
[00:12:04] you think she would have played if she was wasn't this you think mama no I don't think mama I think
[00:12:10] she's I think she would have done really well as Rachel Lee Cook's character Abby Sawyer yeah I
[00:12:16] thought she a really good pick or Mayor Weaver's character yeah mama yes sorry yeah mama yeah
[00:12:24] she played any of them I think yeah but I love love Monica Keena as Tinka Parker she was amazing
[00:12:33] and her chemistry with Vincent was good I totally didn't realize that they had been in another
[00:12:40] movie together as lump of interest called crime and punishment in suburbia I've never seen that one
[00:12:45] but I remember the cover because when we there's like so many movies that Jackie and I remember the
[00:12:52] cover of we didn't see the movie from Blackpuster well what does that look like now
[00:12:59] I'm actually because I have my I'm on IMDB so when I think there's a reference I'm like quick
[00:13:04] I'm like oh yeah I know that movie oh yes oh I have never heard of it nor have I I do not
[00:13:12] remember the the cover but oh that's right she was in Freddie versus Jason sorry it's just like
[00:13:18] like when I was younger I thought she was the most in this movie in particular I thought she was
[00:13:26] so gorgeous and I was just like oh right but then when she came on Dawson's Creek I was like I love
[00:13:33] her as Abby just being a complete bitch and pushing the boundaries I was really mad when they
[00:13:40] killed her off that joke because I was just like man she could have spiced things up y'all are boring man
[00:13:47] where should we start because I know I didn't see the beginning of this movie I ain't in neither so
[00:13:55] here we are wait a minute because I was here feeling so guilty that I hadn't watched it
[00:14:00] in like a month and then and you guys don't even remember it I can't find it they literally on
[00:14:07] YouTube it was like video three that's where it started that's where it started and we're like okay
[00:14:15] we know Gabby Hoffman I think it started with her getting you tell us if we're wrong but it started
[00:14:20] with her getting caught with Matthew Lawrence's character is is that how it happened well it opens
[00:14:26] and this is just this just shows you how I have too much time on my hands but it opens it kind of
[00:14:33] opens in the same way as dirty dancing with them are driving in a car and it's her voice over
[00:14:37] talking about why she's being brought to the school and then she meets and then when she arrives at
[00:14:45] the school the first person she meets is Abby I think played by Rachel Lee Cook and then I think
[00:14:52] or was it Miss McVane I okay this is so bad I think I think she does me Abby because Abby doesn't
[00:15:02] Abby take her to yes yes yes yes it literally popped my head because they look at the statue and then
[00:15:09] Miss McVane comes up and then oh dad is like who's that and then she's like that's Miss McVane she's
[00:15:14] amazing so yeah yeah you're right Abby when we meet her is very much giving my parents name is on
[00:15:23] the building and I live and breathe this school she would be I guess the same thing is like you know
[00:15:32] who her equivalent is Percy and Harry Potter yes yeah that's a good that's a good analogy I she's also
[00:15:40] like not she's not like mean she's like just more of like a goody to two shoes like she really just
[00:15:46] wants everyone to follow rules so I feel like yeah it's very much like Percy at least in the beginning
[00:15:51] yeah in the beginning yeah 100% and I just feel like their contrast is very different because
[00:16:02] gosh she's she's like love at the school and the other girls like F this I want to get the hell out of here
[00:16:09] I need to get laid by my boyfriend who who's played by Matthew Lawrence who we just saw at 90s
[00:16:16] cod which was great I saw I saw I think you posted a photo we didn't post any we didn't get any of him
[00:16:23] but we did get to watch from afar as him and chili gave each other google eyes which was so cute
[00:16:31] that's the that's adorable and also just so like who would have thought like it's such a cool couple
[00:16:38] would have never guessed it never in a thousand years
[00:16:42] um but yeah so she uh Abby takes her on a tour of Miss Goddard shows her around the um
[00:16:51] campus and then I think simultaneously that's when we're introduced to the rest of the girls or
[00:16:56] the main click of girls and that's when they learn that they're getting a new roommate
[00:17:02] and I can't even remember where Odette is from and they're freaking out that she's from there
[00:17:07] in New York I thought there we go New York yeah she's from New York and they're already going
[00:17:11] through her ship which is hilarious it indicates me though to no end because she walked in on them
[00:17:17] trying on like her hot pants I don't even know what they are like her short-footed they're called
[00:17:21] petal pushers they were like above the knee though aren't petal pushers like down by like your
[00:17:26] ankles no I don't know I thought they well I guess you're right I don't know what the above
[00:17:32] the new ones would be called then they weren't trying on her girdle I don't know what they were
[00:17:36] trying on they were just they were just not something you try on without asking right yeah no boundaries
[00:17:43] no boundaries and then going through her record collection trying on her clothes and then of course
[00:17:49] Odette walks in to find that and is not pleased and well she she pisses off Abby before she
[00:17:56] gets her room she's like I'm not even gonna warn you about these heffos that you are living with
[00:18:00] since you want to be like that which I think is hilarious because we do see them try and all her
[00:18:06] should out mm-hmm yeah be hella pissed and yeah and I think I think what I'm trying to remember the
[00:18:15] moment that Abby just gets so angry at her I think Odette starts to smoke a cigarette and Abby
[00:18:20] just walks right up to her and grabs it out of her mouth and breaks it in half I was like try that
[00:18:26] again see what happens see what happens catch these hands real quick catch me outside
[00:18:35] yeah Abby's I I'm using rule follower but she's irritating about it like very much so yeah
[00:18:45] and then I think as soon as Odette catches them and talks about how miserable she's gonna be there
[00:18:52] they find a picture of Dennis and they start to teaser about it to which Odette says those
[00:18:57] most iconic words up your Ziggy with a wall-wad brush I just want to know where that came from if I were
[00:19:05] to ask the director slash writer anything why wear how who like is this a reference that someone
[00:19:13] else said and what is a zig like it's like the spice girl songs as zig zig what whatever they say
[00:19:22] like what is this I mean I don't know what a Ziggy is either but based on context clues I'm guessing
[00:19:27] it's a certain part of someone's anatomy a wall-wad brush I don't know what a wall-wad brush is
[00:19:36] you know all I can say is that I'm sure it was probably like a random inside joke that
[00:19:41] the director write her hat with her friends and then it just because I'm sure just like everyone
[00:19:46] out there who has these really close friendships some of her inside jokes are just gibberish and make
[00:19:51] no sense but they just they make you laugh and I can't assume that that's probably what that where
[00:19:56] that came from well the director Sarah Nitschen I hope I'm saying that right probably not
[00:20:05] she that the basis of this movie was her experiencing experiences at attending Rose Berry Hall which
[00:20:12] is a boarding school in Connecticut it's an all girls institution and it merged with the boys
[00:20:18] school in 1971 and so during her time at this school she wasn't a singing group and she was
[00:20:24] classmates with Glenn Close which is crazy they actually reconvened the original group
[00:20:33] that they had to sing the song The Harry Bird which plays at the film's credits and credits
[00:20:40] but like it makes me wonder what if any of the characters are based on Glenn Close and which one is it
[00:20:51] it's hard for me to decide and I don't mean this in an ages way but to me Glenn Close has always
[00:20:56] been 60 and fabulous so like it's hard for me to picture her like even watching fatal attraction
[00:21:02] I'm like will they D.H. her because she was 60 when they made that movie I don't know why there's
[00:21:06] it there people that always look I guess when you get introduced to someone at that age it's
[00:21:11] hard to picture them like younger but she's still fabulous and she's still gorgeous but
[00:21:16] I would say and this is just speculation probably Tinka I don't know why I just don't know if she
[00:21:24] feels fabulous and doesn't in the film I can't really remember but doesn't Tinka want to be an actress?
[00:21:34] I don't know I think I remember when they go through their when they get invited to the
[00:21:42] daughters of the American Ravioli and they're talking about they're talking about their goals
[00:21:47] and she said I'm gonna be a Hollywood and yeah yeah yeah yeah for a second I was about to say yes
[00:21:55] but then I was like am I confusing her character with the character yeah and no then yeah they do
[00:22:04] give similar vibes hey absolutely absolutely I yeah I think yeah because I think Momma wants to be a
[00:22:12] doctor or a chemist or scientist she wants to be something that I'm not and she's in STEM
[00:22:20] somewhere there we go there we go and then Twini wants to be a psychiatrist or Twini is that
[00:22:29] her name yet? Twini I think yeah so many interesting names right? Yeah Twini wants to be a therapist
[00:22:40] because she needs therapy for her eating disorder and anxiety.
[00:22:47] Her just shoving Ravioli's in her mouth. A cold Ravioli's.
[00:22:52] Room temperature Ravioli's. I can't. No, no, I can't oh
[00:23:01] so Deb meets the girls but she like once she gives that iconic should she tell them off
[00:23:08] they like start laughing so hard because they're like what girl would you say it but bonded
[00:23:16] and they start to they you know the girls tell them show her the lay of the land they show her
[00:23:21] like had a kind of sneak around about you know breaking the rules right and Verina don't play
[00:23:27] she's running that school and take in names pretty much and yeah so pretty much her oh
[00:23:36] death's whole goal is like I guess to figure out how to see my boo so I can be divergenized and that's
[00:23:44] it that's my goal right now. Right and then I think Verina I don't know why she I guess because now
[00:23:53] that their friend she wants she wants to help her get her wish or they all take care of each other
[00:23:58] I think is what they say once you're a part of that group and so since that's what she wants
[00:24:02] Verina's gonna do everything in her power to make it happen which I'm like what a good friend?
[00:24:06] yeah yeah and I think even Verina is like that's your goal that's what you want to do
[00:24:14] and then I mean obviously the course of the movie that's her that's that's literally
[00:24:18] our death arc is coming to realize like what she actually wants but at this point I think
[00:24:23] that's really cool and it's nice to see like right away this friendship happen it doesn't take
[00:24:28] a long time for them to all become super close and that's very refreshing um and also like you said
[00:24:34] that Verina is like the she's the top dog she knows everything she's also not like maniacal or
[00:24:40] like power which I also love yeah she just wants her girls to to win and she she you know it's funny
[00:24:48] between her and Abby they both love the school immensely right but have different ways of about
[00:24:55] going after their goals to to show that we also learn that Verina is actually having a rough year
[00:25:04] her parents are divorcing and so her attachments in school may be a little bit it's an escape
[00:25:12] from her reality at home but on Abigail side you see it's in you know almost like obligation
[00:25:21] but she finds the school gives her the love that she probably not getting at home because her mom's
[00:25:26] kind of an a-hole yeah learn that her mom is um the leader of the board of the school and is planning
[00:25:35] and plotting the schools downfall yeah yeah which is terrible from their perspective but then also
[00:25:45] walking it as an adult I'm like well if the school is failing you kind of have to you know do what
[00:25:49] you got to do right but yeah it's I never really realized that Abby and Verina are basically two
[00:25:55] sides of the same coin and I feel like if they weren't so angry at each other they would be the closest
[00:26:00] out of everybody I feel yeah but yeah like I yeah I think again I think this sets off I don't know
[00:26:07] I feel like Verina just kind of loves to instigate and get on Abby's nerves which is really fun to watch
[00:26:13] because her buttons are so easily pushed Abby is so high strong and just cannot just enjoy
[00:26:19] any moment and oh it's just so it's so entertaining to watch them interact I really love
[00:26:26] Lynn Redgrave in this movie Miss McVane because she as much as as as much as Verina could be like
[00:26:37] a foil to her yeah she always encourages her even in her what would be quote unquote bad behavior
[00:26:45] because she understands that Verina is going to do a lot of stuff and probably more than even her
[00:26:51] classmates understand what's going on and what she tries to do is redirect some of the negative behaviors
[00:26:58] and even with with Abigail she knows Abigail's on hinge and so she does she like rewards her but not
[00:27:07] too much you know she knows all of her girls and all she cares about and wants is for their success
[00:27:13] and for them to be like independent women and I think it's a really good really good role model for
[00:27:19] them to see a professional woman who maybe didn't go down the route of having kids and getting married
[00:27:27] but being passionate about something and helping with the girls so especially the electric
[00:27:34] character yeah yeah it's not something you really experience which sucks because so many of the past
[00:27:42] alumni you they raise these girls to be independent and strong and smart and intelligent
[00:27:50] and then they go out in the real world and don't really get to use all those things or apply
[00:27:56] all those skills and then they don't give back to the school which is why we're in the
[00:28:00] predicament that we're in now right and you know in regards uh miss caught or no miss McVane
[00:28:09] uh let me start over you know in regards to miss McVane I you know what you said was so true and
[00:28:16] I and I also love that you know even though she's trying to push Verina and and motivate her and give
[00:28:21] her you know give her some kind of guidance she's also not ignoring when she does something wrong
[00:28:28] which that kind of gets all my nerves in movies sometimes where kids misbehave and they don't get
[00:28:34] reprimanded or get you know what I like that she's like you know I'm on your side but if you do
[00:28:37] something wrong like you're still gonna have to like have consequences and I think that all is also very
[00:28:44] helpful to her because Verina is obviously lacking any kind of boundaries from her family because
[00:28:49] they're just so involved in their own divorce you know and and yeah so I definitely love that
[00:28:55] Verina is kind of getting some much needed guidance because even though she is ruling the school she's
[00:29:01] very clearly lacking any kind of clarity on the situation I guess like I feel like she's just so
[00:29:08] focused on certain things which is not really ever looking at the big picture and I think that's
[00:29:13] what makes miss McVane is trying to get her to do so yeah I thought that was really I think
[00:29:18] miss McVane is a really great character yeah I love her and it's also interesting because
[00:29:24] the girls decide that Verina is like we have a plan to help Odette be able to see her boo
[00:29:31] and so the thing is like all you have to do is get your parent to say that you're gonna go
[00:29:39] sleep over one of the other girls houses or on a weekend or some sort of trip right so
[00:29:48] and they're like well I can't get my parents or the reason they sent me here is because
[00:29:52] they know that I can't be with my boyfriend so they're not gonna say that I can go to New York
[00:29:56] or whatever so they're like just send a letter to one of your friends who lives in New York so
[00:30:01] that the postage can match and so they figured it all out but then miss McVane is like hmm
[00:30:10] funny I got this letter from your parents that said that you can go to the city
[00:30:17] but I just told you about my daddy the other day and there's no letters so what's this about oh
[00:30:26] but she does give she gives props to the to Tweety but she has no it's Tweety for the forgery
[00:30:37] because that's Tweety's thing she came forward something real good
[00:30:41] but she's like yeah you're not getting out of here sorry New York is out and she's grounded
[00:30:48] she can't leave the school for the rest of the year yeah bound to the school
[00:30:55] so then is that before or after oh no is that before or after they go into the town and
[00:31:00] meet the flat critters I think that was before because she's obviously leaving the school to go to
[00:31:04] town yeah because I think this is where they they go to town and then they have the they hatch the
[00:31:10] plan on the way back when they're walk yeah yeah yeah okay what let's talk about these critters
[00:31:17] do we have to okay what what is happening like that's all I kept saying when I was watching
[00:31:23] these dudes like what is this are they like beatnicks is that kind of what they're saying so I think
[00:31:31] that's what they're trying to get at but and maybe that made sense for the 60 but now it just
[00:31:37] translates as these dudes are a hd and very creative at the same time like
[00:31:47] isn't there I mean they're called flat critters because they take photographs of roadkill
[00:31:52] but they all have like nicknames that are animals they are they aren't they do they do because like Vincent
[00:32:04] Carti say or I can never say his last name I thought it was Carthage or I'm way off oh and maybe
[00:32:11] no I don't know all I know is where you go more yes and his name was snake in yes oh okay snake
[00:32:20] that's right snake so it looks like they all have have roadkill nicknames too right yeah
[00:32:27] they're snakes gunk beagle and groundhog maybe that was their first photo
[00:32:34] maybe that's a good guess oh what if one was armadilla hey that's a great nickname
[00:32:44] I couldn't talk to him first of all I could never be in this group okay
[00:32:51] I said like my uncle's friends because you know my uncle loved to eat the road critters
[00:32:57] one Easter he decided to tell us how we could clean out a possum system so that we can make sure
[00:33:03] we could eat it no that's fantastic beautiful fodder for Easter this is a great idea that was after
[00:33:12] he taught us how to play craps oh well yeah there's a little give and take in that relationship
[00:33:19] he could take it all the way to hell for all I care oh wait there's a possum yeah so I feel like
[00:33:29] well I was just gonna ask him like if we were in the flat critters what would your name be
[00:33:32] ooh I like this game I knew this is where it was going I don't want to see this
[00:33:42] but I would definitely I would go with like bad bunny or something like oh okay I love that
[00:33:50] I think I would be a bobcat oh it's a bobcat and then I think mine oh my god
[00:34:02] I think mine would just be like grasshopper oh I like it rogue kill oh wait no sorry my bad
[00:34:10] I was just thinking of critters I would say I would just be what kids run over
[00:34:15] right who's oh I love them um I would call me froggy there we go perfect
[00:34:25] little raffles that's right hey Sam do you love rom comes absolutely not like the worst what
[00:34:34] just getting for my favorite thing in the whole world yeah I love them too but
[00:34:38] off life has not turned out the way the movies say that it will well which she think came first
[00:34:46] the rom com or our weird ways of thinking about love and romance well that's a real chicken or egg
[00:34:51] scenario and it seems like something maybe someone should talk about maybe us maybe in podcast
[00:34:57] four oh my god you're so right each week on the rom complex we pick a topic and then we chat
[00:35:02] about the romance movies that have affected our lives for better or for worse mostly for worse it's
[00:35:09] the rom complex with Shelby speederman and Sam frontera coming soon I'm doing it in whale oh yes
[00:35:21] oh yes the love language of whale yeah the love language of the water
[00:35:34] oh my so yeah they go into town the girls are mining their own business and a car pulls up
[00:35:42] with a bunch of beatniks in the back and here here comes snake hanging out the window and he sees
[00:35:51] tinker from a mile away and he's like I'm in love okay this is it for me and tinker's like
[00:36:02] somebody right there's a screw missing here but I'm also intrigued right I'm also intrigued
[00:36:09] like he's like that special kind of crazy but he means wow he does he does because like obviously
[00:36:18] out of the whole group tinker is not the brightest and I think that might just be like she chooses
[00:36:28] she's not that she's dumb but she chooses to like you know yeah so it's gonna say I don't think
[00:36:34] there's really like that because I don't really think there's like an airhead character in the
[00:36:38] loop but definitely like and but I would also say maybe tweedy a little bit but more just because
[00:36:43] she's naive not because she's not like not educated you know I think tinker just knows what
[00:36:49] she wants to do and she's like I don't have any need for any of this like I'm not gonna put all
[00:36:55] this effort into the school thing like right yeah but she's she's intelligent like she wouldn't
[00:37:00] have been able to stay in the school if she wasn't right but she's just also like zero effort it's
[00:37:07] yeah her goals are less scholastic than the others for sure yes 100% so yeah she is intrigued by snake
[00:37:16] and the rest of the girls are just like what in the hell is happening right now I would also ask
[00:37:23] her that too what are you thinking girl like snake I do love that there's literally like five
[00:37:32] guys in their group and now one of the other girls is interested in that guy those guys all
[00:37:38] the same but who would be I mean it's not right if you mean but if you watch the like no
[00:37:44] one of the guys one of the actors I believe that plays one of the critters it's a guy that plays
[00:37:52] video guy video clerk from the big hit Jackie oh yeah so that's all I was like oh okay I remember him
[00:38:07] so yeah a debt gets found out but there's also another problem brewing because in history class
[00:38:15] or is it literature I can't remember which class it is I think it may be literature
[00:38:21] yeah I think it's English yeah yeah right because French and then yeah Mr. with Mr.
[00:38:28] Dewey right English yeah a debt of course being as bright as she is catches the attention
[00:38:34] of her teacher because she's able to speak very well about one of the subjects and then she gets
[00:38:42] like you could tell she gets like a weird vibe from her teacher because he becomes very too close
[00:38:47] for comfort yes I would say and the other girls are kind of like you could see Verena already
[00:38:53] spot that with him and she's probably already checked him on it but I think the girls decide that
[00:39:00] this is an opportunity because they really have been wanting to get rid of this man
[00:39:05] in his nasty behavior I thought the way that they did this character and the whole situation was clever
[00:39:12] without like really saying it right absolutely it was all it was all intimated and and very he was
[00:39:22] very careful in how he and like invited her on that trip and yeah it was very just and then
[00:39:29] picked the length of her sweater yeah yeah I don't like it and so ironically the character
[00:39:35] Mr. Dewey is married to another teacher who everyone adores I think she's the French teacher
[00:39:41] no I don't issue the French teacher she might have been I thought they were two different
[00:39:47] ladies but you're probably right I because I think part of the plant well like as you said to get rid
[00:39:53] of they want to get rid of him because he is just a latch as Momo said tell Odette yeah he's gross
[00:40:01] he's disgusting so gross and the girls luckily the girls warned her about like as much as you want
[00:40:08] to go to New York you do not want it to be in that way which is just I just get such creeps like
[00:40:14] chills down my spine because it's so gross even the fact that he invited her
[00:40:19] no and he progressively gets worse so yes he does best the girls have decided that he's got to go
[00:40:27] and they've got to come up with a plan to get rid of him right where do they get that dirty
[00:40:34] from verina stole it see this is what I can't believe I still have this information in my head
[00:40:40] verina stole it from her dad's collection oh that's right right yeah so they somehow do a
[00:40:48] switcheroo and get him caught up with this dirty magazine but mismigain by his wife yes but
[00:40:55] mismigain is not falling for it I don't know if it's his wife because the fact that like she
[00:41:03] the teacher act the front teacher goes and shows like when she goes and slap the shit out of your
[00:41:09] husband first before it go telling on him well I think because when they when she the whole
[00:41:16] the whole scheme to get him caught is he leaves they steal his briefcase that when he leaves at the
[00:41:23] end of the period that's when Odette puts the dirty magazines in there and I think it was specifically
[00:41:28] for his wife to find because they didn't want only they didn't want to lose Mrs. Dewey but they
[00:41:32] wanted Mr. Dewey to go so yeah and then she finds it and then yeah I guess she just takes it to
[00:41:39] because maybe even she thought like there's no way this is his stuff which is you know I think she
[00:41:44] was just probably in denial I mean clearly it wasn't but yeah I think and then mismigain is very
[00:41:49] interested in the magazine she's like oh you think you can buy this which go girl do your thing
[00:41:56] we love it I also find it very and like I personally would be more okay with my husband just liking
[00:42:07] dirty magazines versus being an actual right sexual abuser absolutely so the but it doesn't work
[00:42:14] no mismigain sees right through it which honestly though I'm not gonna lie I'm like how how would
[00:42:21] you even because why would you why would you assume that they wanted to get rid of Mr. Dewey you
[00:42:25] know what I mean yeah well I think this wasn't their first attempt okay I think that's why she was
[00:42:32] like this has Burina written all over it and it also just seems very blatant like he would be a
[00:42:38] little bit more careful about about this so she does call in Burina an Abigail of course is the one
[00:42:45] that has to go get her tell her that she's in trouble and mismigain's like again tip my hat off
[00:42:53] with these efforts but like what are you doing right and also do you know how hard it is to get a
[00:43:00] male teacher right at all so which my thing was like okay so just have a bunch of female teachers
[00:43:09] like yeah like isn't that the whole point is you're trying to show that like I mean I don't want
[00:43:14] to speak out of turn but to me it's like wouldn't that be the point of the school is to employ women
[00:43:18] because I especially at a high school level because again I don't know what it was like back then but
[00:43:23] I'm assuming like any job it's hard for women especially back then to get into the the business
[00:43:29] they want to be so I'm like let's employ more women let's have an all female all women school let's go
[00:43:33] for it well in your track record is one creepy teacher right right right maybe just hire women
[00:43:42] yes you won't have to worry about that right and I um yeah so I feel bad that it doesn't work because
[00:43:50] I wish it did because as we all know it escalates further but you know so I am at a blank what
[00:43:56] happens after this moment I have a snake shows up yelling for tinka at the school right and
[00:44:07] doesn't he do this multiple times he does he tries to he like really tries to get on campus and
[00:44:14] he dresses up as her father and isn't it like her dad is dead or something so it's just like
[00:44:22] okay and he just walks out oh yeah that's right and then oh my god and then I think then
[00:44:30] doesn't he get like a no the cherry pickers at the end he gets it's the dance when he find he's like
[00:44:35] right right right so he's trying with no available to see his girl and they find out they're going
[00:44:42] to have a dance with the near they're like brother boarding school but they also find out that
[00:44:50] they want to merge the schools and it happens because Tweety is going on a late night
[00:44:56] ravioli run after using epic act to make herself get sick right and she falls through
[00:45:08] like not even in like a they were so rough with this I was like damn she really went through it
[00:45:15] they're poor Tweety right it wasn't like a little dainty like slip through like no she went like
[00:45:21] bam yeah oh my god this poor girl as if she doesn't have enough on her plate already
[00:45:27] and I love how that like the next day where Miss McBane finds this hole she's like oh this
[00:45:34] the ceiling must have just finally caved like no no point in your ceiling
[00:45:43] so well I think so then obviously prior to this like way just to they invite
[00:45:50] oh debt to be part of the American girls American no daughters of the American ravioli
[00:45:55] which is basically their secret society that meets in this abandoned little attic above the school
[00:46:00] right and then that's when they tell her that's when we take care of our own and we're gonna help
[00:46:05] everyone achieve our goals so then that's where Tweety was going right to get more ravioli at their
[00:46:10] little hideout right yeah yeah just through like a closet climb up the shelves into that it
[00:46:19] she was just going full force and then I guess she didn't have enough room to turn and she just kept going
[00:46:25] yeah yeah um but scene is where like we get some discourse between oh I can't remember her name
[00:46:33] kirsten dunce character and the group because she's like I think that's what it was
[00:46:40] where they were just kind of like we have to be if there are boys in the school then we have to like
[00:46:47] wear makeup and girdles in like get all in slur and do all these things and she's like no we just
[00:46:56] want to be women and want to be educated and not worry about all that crap also momo gets really
[00:47:03] upset because this is going to hurt her her chances to get into a really good school because
[00:47:07] there's obviously going to be more competition and there it's going to be you know most schools will
[00:47:14] limit how many people they will take from one high school so this is really going to affect her
[00:47:20] chances do you remember the what's the name of the a saint ambros right say the ambros academy I
[00:47:25] think that's the boy school that they're gonna merge with I think so yeah yeah and so they as
[00:47:31] you said originally it was just gonna be a dance and then Tweety finds out that the dance is actually
[00:47:36] just a way for the faculty and the administrators to see how well they do together and then if it
[00:47:42] goes well then obviously they'll go through with the merger of the two schools to save the school
[00:47:46] from because as you said it's literally decaying all around and yeah that whole conversation
[00:47:54] that they have where they're all arguing about the validity of this choice like it's so it's so
[00:47:59] well written and it's so even now it's like you could have you can take that scene and put it in
[00:48:05] a movie today and it would fit so perfectly yeah yeah because we're still seeing so many institutions
[00:48:13] kind of go through this and struggle yes yet so you see Abigail's mom is like look I've been
[00:48:20] floating the school for a long time and I'm like I'm like over it and Miss McVane has been trying her
[00:48:27] hardest to keep everything going and she fights for the for the school for the girls right because she
[00:48:33] doesn't want it she doesn't want it merged at all and and but isn't it weird did anyone notice that like
[00:48:41] uh um Abby's mom and Rachel Cook's character is kind of like what Kirsten Dunn's plays in
[00:48:47] Mona Lisa smile with her mom being on the wall and that's so crazy I was just thinking about that
[00:48:51] right now and I'm like they're basically she way to couple years she plays the same character
[00:48:55] 100% I saw a clip for Mona Lisa smile and I was like oh my god that's right there is a lot of parallels
[00:49:04] to that really that's why yeah for sure and did the speech that Kirsten Dunn's gives where as you
[00:49:12] said you know you have to blitz the zits and spray the pits and push up the tits and like iconic
[00:49:18] where was the Oscar for this right but didn't it remind like it just read so Greta Grewig to me like
[00:49:23] it felt like yeah yeah Joe's monologue in Little Women or even America for Arizona Barbie like
[00:49:30] it was just so it was so good I loved it and it really reminded me of like how well
[00:49:37] how like a really well written movie is truly timeless and I feel like that scene was definitely
[00:49:42] like a timeless aspect of the film for sure yeah I definitely agree I love how they come up with the
[00:49:49] the plan is to ruin the boys but they were strategic about it because they were like okay we're going
[00:49:56] to find somebody on the board has a kid at the school that's the kid that we're going to make as an
[00:50:04] example and screw them over because it's definitely going to affect them even more so they pull
[00:50:12] the names of the board and they find out that the grandson of one of the board members and they're
[00:50:17] they're tired yeah so they work their magic about trying to get Verina paired up with him actually
[00:50:26] and this is as you said really quick though that this is when the group actually fractures and I
[00:50:31] think it's Odette and Tinka who want no part in this scheme anymore because they actually want
[00:50:35] the boys to merge with them and so now it's just Momo Verina and Tweety I think Tweety's still on the
[00:50:42] side I think she actually I mean she's kind of in the middle but she also wants the boys because
[00:50:50] she's boy crazy you know and because I could have yeah I was like did she actually because when
[00:50:57] the whole thing happens I don't think she's part of this game at all but she's also not actively
[00:51:01] against it she's just there yeah I mean this poor child she's so sweet and and she's the cutest
[00:51:11] and the boys are horrific to her what she has to endure oh my god so are we at so we're at the dance
[00:51:17] now right yeah which that I love that little montage of everyone getting ready yes oh it's so fabulous
[00:51:25] and I haven't missed where the dye Abby's hair blonde doing this on her oh right right right
[00:51:35] oh that is right as a prank yeah they put peroxide in her like friends and then
[00:51:41] that's right again oh I poor Abigail right and I mean she is very snooty but again she's not
[00:51:50] actively trying to like do something to catch it's just their misbehaving and it's like well if
[00:51:55] you're not following the rules I'm sorry I'm gonna do my job and I'm gonna tell you right but yeah
[00:52:00] so then the dance now that they know that the point of the dance is to to see how this is gonna
[00:52:09] affect everybody they're like okay well then like as you said our goal is to just
[00:52:13] mess this up completely and show how terrible these boys are which as you said they're not it's
[00:52:19] not that hard to do because they are terrible well they get a bunch of alcohol despite the punch
[00:52:24] that's yeah they put a bunch of yeah yeah yeah go ahead so there's oh no I'm gonna say a
[00:52:28] momo bruise it because she's like a chemist right or she's trying to be a chemist yeah
[00:52:34] then they put a bunch of old they put a bunch of like beer bottle wine bottles whatever alcohol
[00:52:40] bottles in the bus tick display and yeah she she drugs them actually it's not even like they're
[00:52:46] really drunk per se it's like doesn't she say it's like like 80 proof or whatever like it's so strong
[00:52:56] I couldn't even imagine so yeah and then Vera that's that her name I don't know why I'm
[00:53:04] watching her name so who's Vera Verina okay we know who you meant she gets frost the one that's
[00:53:16] the grand sign alone and she just keeps force feeding him might all in like might all
[00:53:24] and coke has coke enhances the effects of might all well it actually it's not my
[00:53:30] all she tells them it's my all yeah but one of them took some real drugs from their parents and
[00:53:38] that boys messed up mm-hmm and then but he confesses that he wants to get kicked out because it's too
[00:53:46] much pressure for him to be in the school with his grandfather being a donor and things like that
[00:53:52] right so then she kind of is like oh well maybe I don't want to do this too but then it's kind
[00:53:58] of too late and she's already drugged him but he says really nice things to her and his his drug state
[00:54:06] but I do want to rewind back to the fact that Verina had this all plotted out but Abigail there was
[00:54:13] a wrench in this because she requests to actually have this guy and they said they did it by height
[00:54:18] but no she yeah Abigail was like oh you really want to you died my hair okay I'm gonna take you
[00:54:24] boo like this is how it's gonna go but Abigail so easy to read that she's as able to kind of like
[00:54:30] distract her and steal her boo anyways yeah doesn't she she knocks into her so she falls and gets
[00:54:36] dirt on her white tides and it's like oh you got to go change and I'm like hey you imagine like
[00:54:41] I could never imagine having to go change my whole outfit I honestly would just be like well
[00:54:45] whatever there's grab some my knees let's go party I don't care
[00:54:53] but yeah Verina as you said she's the mastermind she is so like 10 steps ahead of everybody and
[00:54:59] and by the way isn't Frosty or Frost sorry or they call him Frosty yeah isn't he from the
[00:55:06] Sandlot yes yeah is New Smalls I can't believe it's so crazy love that I love that connection
[00:55:14] but as like she's with him like you said she's 10 steps ahead but the thing she didn't see come in
[00:55:21] was Frosty she didn't see herself liking him right and they end up snoggin making out
[00:55:29] and of course Abigail finds them and they're and that's it aren't they in Abigail's room yes
[00:55:37] yes and she's got what is it a liberate who does she have a poster of in her room I think it's like
[00:55:46] liberate your somebody like a piano player something so she wasn't trying to be but wasn't the plan
[00:55:52] it wasn't originally supposed to be Verina in the bed with him right no no
[00:55:55] she's gonna be him in the bed yeah right okay and then she ends up just kind of falling for
[00:56:01] his charms and then that's when it all goes south yeah she ends up yeah she doesn't expect Abigail
[00:56:08] to catch them there right that's what they're just freaking out so they're messed up
[00:56:14] then the other girls are like down on ground zero and the dance well Momo is at least trying
[00:56:20] to get stuck in your entire school right but there's a group of guys so the the guys are
[00:56:29] the guy who's partnered with Tweety is actually excited because she has stuffed her bra so he thinks
[00:56:34] that she's stacked and he kind of like attacks her and then when is disappointed when she's not
[00:56:46] when he finds out that she has stuffed her bra and it's a really not crazy yeah it's really
[00:56:53] uncomfortable and again it's hand I mean it's it's done very well and and it's oh I think he
[00:57:00] like pulls out that like you said he pulls out the tissue paper and then he has a friend who I
[00:57:06] think is Bobby from X-Men I'm not sure but he has the friend waiting by with a camera yes
[00:57:13] right lips are around and lifts up her yes yes yes yeah they embarrass her to know and
[00:57:21] and then she comes crying to tinka as this is happening we find out that the what's gonna call
[00:57:28] them rascal flats and the the cruders it's the same thing the cruder gang whatever their name is they
[00:57:37] have um sorry rascal flats isn't isn't the song life life is a highway about eating real
[00:57:48] it's fine the flat critters have taken a few of the guys and beat them up and taken
[00:57:54] their clothes so they can sneak in so of course they could see so snake and see tinka and tinka is
[00:58:03] trying to you know comfort tweety but also find the guy because she tells her who it is
[00:58:09] and she's looking for him looking for him and then she sees her boo and she realizes that the
[00:58:14] guy that they beat up was the guy that actually her tweety so she's like you know what
[00:58:20] Bonnie and Clyde you and I right what happened to tweety was enough for tinka to switch sides
[00:58:27] and is like no I don't want them here anymore yeah and so now everyone except oh dad is on team
[00:58:34] verina but oh dad is kind of like i think oblivious to everything cuz she ain't there where she go
[00:58:39] she she's in their secret hiding space they have reached out to her her boyfriend again played by
[00:58:47] Matthew Lawrence and they told him how to get to the secret place and he they have like a uniform
[00:58:53] for him so that he looks like he's one of the boys so that they can get to dentist and knock
[00:59:00] in the boots or whatever and poor Odette like she gets buyers remorse when she realizes like
[00:59:08] I don't know if I really want to do this anymore let's just talk yeah you know about me what do
[00:59:16] I know about you right it was more of just the idea finally doing it and then I think being around
[00:59:22] all these wonderful peers of her she kind of realized that there's more to life at that point for
[00:59:27] her yeah and then I think that's as you said like she starts at talking to him and she's like well
[00:59:32] wait a minute maybe it's not the like maybe we're not as meant to be or maybe this is not the most
[00:59:38] perfect thing on top of that he's supposed to bring rubbers and instead he brings contraceptive foam
[00:59:46] like what oh my god and then he pulls out the canister i just remember this because it always made
[00:59:52] me laugh he pulls out the canister and it's like first of all it's like this bit it's huge and then
[00:59:56] there's like a syringe and she what what did he think that she was just gonna sit there and insert
[01:00:02] herself with foam and then I just oh my god it was so cringe so cringe but in the best way
[01:00:11] and they get to talking they realize that you know it's okay they can take things slow and
[01:00:16] get to know each other blah blah blah but then of course they are interrupted by skewie make
[01:00:22] gievie their teacher the chest are them a less they're walks in and the fact that he looks so happy
[01:00:31] catching them this and the absolute fear of debt shows in her face when she's begging Dennis
[01:00:38] don't leave yeah don't leave her here which like Dennis is so concerned about like oh i'm caught
[01:00:46] but like he's a going he doesn't put two and two together that would is yeah not dressed pretty much
[01:00:54] comfortable right right i think maybe on just to give him a little bit of the benefit
[01:00:59] now obviously he doesn't know the deal with mr. dewey so much i think he probably in that moment
[01:01:04] just thought oh we're gonna get in trouble she's gonna get expect like i think maybe that was kind
[01:01:09] of what he was thinking of and then i do recall like right when she's telling him not to leave he
[01:01:14] starts to like usher him out and then he tries to stop a little bit he's like well wait wait wait wait
[01:01:19] and then just closes the door on him which is like so scary and so oh oh oh i would it they were
[01:01:27] candles let me tell you oh yeah i would have burned that place to the ground first before that man
[01:01:32] touched me hmm i yeah honestly just go run back and jump through the hole that tweety fell through
[01:01:39] you're out of there see a skate catch it is it really is but the good i would say like prior to that
[01:01:48] moment as we talked about earlier like it was very ambiguous like his his disgustingness and then at
[01:01:56] this moment it's really when it's like no no there's no ambiguity he is a disgusting human being
[01:02:01] and he is there for one reason like he found his moment and he's gonna seize this moment which is
[01:02:06] awful well she he tells her she should be punished and maybe they can make a private arrangement
[01:02:15] no disgusting disgusting uh jesus and how does she get the mask of lats
[01:02:27] which how did they why were they there did oh they saw Dennis right leave
[01:02:31] right yeah i think they saw Dennis leave like come out in the door and then they're like oh what's
[01:02:37] up there oh they're like oh snap i think Dennis mentions that the teacher catches them so he
[01:02:44] they're like they're like oh shit and so they they go to help so the rascal flats run in
[01:02:51] break beat beat him a rascal they they dress him in women's clothes or something and they
[01:02:59] or they do something and they drop him through the escape hatch to them so he's locked in there
[01:03:06] so a lot of shit it's happening everything's going on and he's because once they drop him in there
[01:03:12] that's when his wife and miss Mcvayne walk in and i think she's like not again or or something to
[01:03:17] that effect of like you know this is it yeah i'm done with it right you you're you're the worst
[01:03:23] and just like that and this dude we problem is gone yeah it's taken care of
[01:03:28] miss Mcvayne i think as soon as she sees him she already it clicks what the hell's going on right
[01:03:33] right absolutely so yeah they
[01:03:37] then they thought she missed Mcvayne actually finds the the head
[01:03:42] i don't know if you call him miss it's not head mistress but i don't know what you would call
[01:03:46] him the there we go thank you they she finds him and she's like what is with your boys all
[01:03:52] this other stuff this is despicable they they leave or whatever and obviously what's his face
[01:04:00] is like done he's getting kicked out of school verina is done because she got caught with a boy
[01:04:07] that's like no coming back from that isn't there isn't there like a huge isn't there a whole
[01:04:13] sequence when they're singing and they just start throwing it out of the fire yeah yeah momo put
[01:04:19] something in their drink to empty comedy yeah right and they're supposed to perform
[01:04:27] and they all just start throwing up and that's when they go to the bus and they see all of the
[01:04:34] alcohol and whatnot so yeah the bottle yeah disgusting i don't know what this obsession with
[01:04:39] putting vomit in movies like can we just go to every studio and say we don't need it you can
[01:04:45] you can make us like just have them do it off camera it's fine right it's not funny it's not
[01:04:51] funny it's gross it's so it's so gross i was just thinking because our last conversation and get
[01:04:57] over it when he throws up in the punch like oh right i don't know what's worse is the throwing
[01:05:04] up in the punch scene or the scene and she's all that where there's pupa care on the pizza and he
[01:05:09] has to eat it like well it'll be honest it's the vomit any vomit no matter what it's the vomit
[01:05:15] and i will never ever be okay with it i just don't it's like the three scenes that have the
[01:05:19] vomit scenes that have traumatized me is like this get over it and then stand by me when they have
[01:05:24] that whole pie eating contest thing i just i can't do it it's gross we need to start a protest no more
[01:05:30] vomit scenes in that part of the agreement for the do you get i'm literally gonna go put that in there
[01:05:39] no more vomit scenes so yeah momo is very pleased with herself because she did you know tip
[01:05:50] tip we're at you're at after yeah she got she got she'd done rena got caught denis is out yes
[01:05:57] but odette is happy that she saved from her by her friends rascal flats better than ever
[01:06:05] ready to go we give him a lot of shit but they're actually pretty decent guys yeah 100% god bless the broken road
[01:06:13] goodbye great
[01:06:16] so miss is got heard
[01:06:21] but then they find out that all the hard work that they did really doesn't do anything that they're
[01:06:28] they're gonna vote right and it's still gonna probably happen
[01:06:34] verina does get kicked out and so she has to leave so they say goodbye to her
[01:06:39] it's yeah pretty nice yeah she's not there for the final big old program no she's gone
[01:06:48] and this is when odette kind of stints up take you know takes on the position we probably would have
[01:06:55] seen come from verina but before verina leaves she kind of you know she seems happy and content like
[01:07:03] she feels like she's in a solid place and she realizes that maybe she was a little stuck
[01:07:08] and then she had kind of like and not so healthy relationship with the school yeah and this is
[01:07:14] probably what she needed plus she likes her new boo so and they're gonna you know end up going to
[01:07:20] school together right oh my god that's right i can't that it's so funny how much stuff is being like
[01:07:26] put back in my in my mind how does the so how exactly does the protest start because i remember
[01:07:32] that they find out that it's gonna happen anyway or the vote is gonna happen and i can't recall
[01:07:37] if the protest is too because they want to be able to vote on it as well is that why they're
[01:07:42] protesting yet they want to say they want to be able to have a say in their education and then
[01:07:48] the school and they plan pretty quickly yeah and odette kind of becomes a leader and all the
[01:07:56] girls even Abigail goes against her own mother because this is just not what they want so they lock
[01:08:03] they lock they do a lock in essentially and it's the last day of school where all the parents
[01:08:09] are coming to get the kids and they're like outside and they can't get in and of course the school
[01:08:14] only has three old ass security guards yeah oh that's right yeah so they really can't do much
[01:08:21] the girls have blockaded the entrances and whatnot and then when the cops come and then
[01:08:28] they call the news crew actually the girls are again very savvy yeah so they do the lock in yes
[01:08:34] right it's kind of interesting to me for your main care i guess i mean so Gabby Hoffman is essentially
[01:08:42] the lead of the film oh dad is our as our like is the audience is like surrogate because i was
[01:08:47] gonna say it's so strange for kirsten danston not to be in like the most pivotal moment of the
[01:08:52] yeah so i find that kind of odd i can see why because that way you have the other girls finally step up
[01:08:58] and like realize what yeah i've been trying to fight for for so long but i do wish she could have
[01:09:03] been there i think it would have been fun yeah but odette she she gets up there she gets the horse
[01:09:10] club they all have horses to oh yeah yeah they have they take the sheets and they make messages
[01:09:18] they did they called the press so the press is there along with the police and the parents are like
[01:09:25] get through there what do you and they're like this is not this is not looking good we now
[01:09:29] about to be down some girls on national television you crazy so the girls are ready to stay like we
[01:09:37] got enough ravioli to be down here for a while okay no matter how the as if i was one of those
[01:09:43] girls they know ravioli for me i'm leaving bye you guys good luck with your school
[01:09:49] somehow like they have regulators mount up on horses they do not play they don't play and they want
[01:10:01] the bylaws amended and they want a student representative on the board yeah right which is for you
[01:10:09] yeah which i think is interesting because obviously the director writer this is like wishful thinking
[01:10:17] for her because her school did have to merge with the boy school right so it's really nice that she's
[01:10:24] able to kind of like say this is what i wish would have happened yeah absolutely
[01:10:30] and so yeah they do vote to keep it girls only my question is cool but still you have no money
[01:10:39] right well no so all the girls all the girls the students dig in their pockets
[01:10:46] they're they're Christmas money they're whatever they're what i think they even say they're
[01:10:50] trust funds wow they go they like give money it's not a lot but they get and so that's when
[01:10:57] miss McVane says to the parents because they are in the chapel i think she addresses them and say
[01:11:03] look if your girls were able to dig and find money i think everyone here can do the same
[01:11:11] and so the parents actually start giving money alumni start giving money so they are able to
[01:11:17] raise the money um needed to do this the what to keep up the school and whatnot so the girls inspire
[01:11:26] the adults with their efforts love it and then tinka sneaks out to to snake the leader of
[01:11:37] rascal flats well her mom is in her room and her mom is just like talking to her laying and then you
[01:11:43] hear him yelling for her and she goes out the window because he's on one of those what are those
[01:11:49] things like i call them cherry pickers but i yeah yeah like i let's just say cherry picker sure sure
[01:11:56] yeah so she climbs out the window it'll go be with him in this cherry picker i'm like y'all ain't
[01:12:02] got nothing but money in time out these streets yeah so then they write off into the sunset literally
[01:12:10] together literally and then and then also it's kind of a great way to like close out of death arc
[01:12:17] because i think in the beginning she made it very clear she wants to get into politics so i think
[01:12:21] this was definitely her finally put being able to put all that into practice but yeah and
[01:12:26] verina does come back this is the scene where she does come back with her boo he in his wonderful
[01:12:33] sports like car i don't know what it was sorry Jackie i couldn't find an info on that one but
[01:12:39] they roll up and she's like great job i try i you know i thought you well kind of thing right yeah
[01:12:45] this is when we learn that she's they go to it they're gonna be going to another school together
[01:12:50] co-ed school and what not so we we do get to see end the movie with saying like seeing verina which is
[01:12:58] nice right yeah i'm glad they brought her back because i know what a very weird yeah the last part of
[01:13:05] the movie or the very ending of the movie is like what they all become after this endeavor so verina
[01:13:15] starts moa magazine which she talked about in one of their meetings but that does become a congress
[01:13:21] woman i wrote tinker came out yeah this is true it turns out she wasn't looking for a snake she was
[01:13:35] looking for a beaver and that's how it goes hey i don't know still part of the flat critters
[01:13:44] do what you did there and i appreciate it
[01:13:49] Teresa tweedy becomes an adolescent psychologist
[01:13:56] love that and then mo mo this one's my favorite develops the first male oral contraceptive
[01:14:04] love it love it love it love it no spray contraceptive wonderful
[01:14:12] and then abbie becomes a radical activist and she's in prison serving ascentines for a 1970
[01:14:21] bank hold up so this one i will admit still makes me upset because they
[01:14:28] they make it a point to show abbie finally like coming full circle and realizing that she
[01:14:35] was like on the wrong side and then she's like you know tells her mom up years to get with a
[01:14:39] wall wall brush um as you do and so then i'm like yay like she's one of them and then when this
[01:14:45] happened to him i'm like oh i feel so bad but she's still living her truth that's true that's true
[01:14:52] but i'm just like not show see and that is all i want to do a k strike a k
[01:15:02] re bird so what it was yeah you did it y'all you did it uh another fun fact is that nor effron
[01:15:12] produced this movie which so we can count this as a nor effron movie by the way
[01:15:18] which i love i love that for us
[01:15:26] but before we get into our readings zack why don't you tell everybody where they can find

[01:16:02] in present time i am such a fan of coming of age movies and i feel like this is a solid one i don't
[01:16:10] think that there's there's not really much i would change about it i think it still holds up i
[01:16:14] think it has a lot of modern themes that are still relevant today so i would i would buy it again for
[01:16:20] sure yaki i'm gonna stick with the five day rental i did enjoy my rewatch and in y'all
[01:16:32] it would i need to buy it i don't know where mine is so i'm gonna say would buy it again
[01:16:38] because clearly i had it but i don't have it anymore i didn't have a problem with you know it's a white
[01:16:46] feminism movie but i still liked it what can i say and then that rascal flats in it right
[01:16:53] could you watch this is where they where they started it's really cool to see them
[01:16:58] it's their origin story i love the good origin story wasn't that the fourth title is just called
[01:17:04] the rascal flat story rascal flats hit it again i was trying to think of another one of their
[01:17:14] songs to make a joke in it oh mine was so bad i was just gonna say wasn't it called the little
[01:17:20] rascals flats um i have one of their CDs and that's because of your sister your sister really got
[01:17:30] into country music at one point she did and i've been to a rascal flats concert with her
[01:17:40] thanks Heather and recently the same concert weird little concert i went to where i saw kulio
[01:17:48] a week before he died oh right right he was the lead singer was the lead singer of rascal flats
[01:17:53] there singing too it was such an eclectic group of people it sounds like it it was bizarre uncle cracker was
[01:18:01] there um how in america did we get a man to name himself uncle cracker wait is uncle cracker the

[01:18:25] you made all this up tell me if this isn't same character different front okay tell me the lead singer
[01:18:32] of rascal flats uh-huh the lead singer of smash mouth uh-huh yes uncle cracker yep and the guy
[01:18:42] from dives drives and i was just gonna say that right now i was gonna be like tell me you don't put
[01:18:49] them in the same room and you look confused put mark my breath like circus kubi do when he had
[01:18:56] the blonde hair also and it was piggy from what was what was his band chugray chugray yeah i was about
